Honey locust trees are one of the most fascinating examples of what scientists call an “evolutionary anachronism”, a trait that seems designed for animals that no longer exist. While these prehistoric animals likely helped disperse the tree’s seeds by eating its sweet pods, they could also strip bark, break branches, and damage the tree as they fed.
