Ok, I agree on some points but anything can be achieved if you have the right calibre of people in the political arena and not the current set of grifters available to the highest bidder whose opinions and integrity can be bought for a price.
I have a few ideas how to achieve this and would be interested in your thoughts.
You could start with a massive pay cut to say £45K a year this would filter out career politicians who's only goal is wealth and feathering their own nest and give us only individuals who have a better vision for our country and are there not for themselves but the betterment of the country for their constituents.
Remove subsidys and expenses so they also use the public services we all have to, experience the delays and cancellations and lack of services like we do. Only then will change come about (I imagine pretty quickly as well)
The media issue would be tricky as you would be balancing a fine line between silencing freedom of speech and silencing genuine fear mongering' but there's no doubt in anyone's mind radical change is needed in this area.
I agree our state spending is at an all time high but that is mostly down to the COVID pandemic and the 'cash for mates' scandal. At my last check (please correct me if I'm wrong) only 10 bn out of the 50bn is actually accounted for, getting this money back and prosecuting if the law has been broken would be a good starting point for any future governments and claw back some much needed cash which could be put to use in many of the failing areas.
At the moment our services are only invested in if someone stands to make money from it (housing, transport, water, energy) and then it's definitely not used to improve service, as we've seen time and time again, Shareholders before the needs of the public. Even when the company is in debt they still get paid, how? This needs to stop.
Bringing transport, energy and utilities back under Public ownership would solve this problem. Making them separate entities from the current corporate businesses we have now would allow us to chase the money needed for investment from the current shareholders without impacting the public purse.
