@thdxr Are you allowed to "Phone their Friend" so they can also join in on the tribunal? You gotta make sure you have an outside opinion on the mockery after all.

respectable but we go the other way whenever someone makes a mistake we hold a tribunal over discord for whoever messed up every member on our team takes turns attacking this person - partly professionally, mostly personally finally the individual self flagellates (metaphorically although literally is fine too) until the team is satisfied this ends up working long term because no one wants to be in that position
palcu@AlexPalcuie

I repeat this to every new joiner at Anthropic but it's worth repeating in public -- we have a blameless culture and no single individual is at fault when bespoke complex systems break at scale

🚨 CRITICAL: Active supply chain attack on axios -- one of npm's most depended-on packages. The latest axios@1.14.1 now pulls in plain-crypto-js@4.2.1, a package that did not exist before today. This is a live compromise. This is textbook supply chain installer malware. axios has 100M+ weekly downloads. Every npm install pulling the latest version is potentially compromised right now. Socket AI analysis confirms this is malware. plain-crypto-js is an obfuscated dropper/loader that: • Deobfuscates embedded payloads and operational strings at runtime • Dynamically loads fs, os, and execSync to evade static analysis • Executes decoded shell commands • Stages and copies payload files into OS temp and Windows ProgramData directories • Deletes and renames artifacts post-execution to destroy forensic evidence If you use axios, pin your version immediately and audit your lockfiles. Do not upgrade.

I just got a Tax Guy. I can now say "lemme talk to my tax guy" instead of "lemme go ask my Mom" when friends want to hang out. Your Network is Net Worth, and for the purposes of the IRS my Tax Guy says I shouldn't discussion this any further.

@ptr_to_joel I can't wait for the "Java Experts" of twitter and reddit to learn why Sealed Classes and Interfaces were implemented *before* the Pattern Matching feature was added. It's going to blow their minds in 2032.

Breaking news! Shovel seller concerned about the amount of shovels you could have used. Claims "more shovels less problems" I am so tired of GenAI. I'm so tired of slop. Pop the bubble already.

Jensen Huang: "If that $500,000 engineer did not consume at least $250,000 worth of tokens, I am going to be deeply alarmed. This is no different than a chip designer who says 'I'm just going to use paper and pencil. I don't think I'm going to need any CAD tools.'"

Never ever let a good crisis go to waste. I join every sev call to ask “would mandatory stage baking have caught this?” / “would synthetic tests have caught this?” / “why did you clickops that resource?” Always pushing an agenda, forcing teams to add my pet projects of RELIABILITY AND FEWER INCIDENTS to their P0 workstream.

@theo Forgive me for TikTok, but Brandon Sanderson's take on AI is on it, and I think it's rather good with these conversations. @authorbrandonsanderson/video/7523064887782690078" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tiktok.com/@authorbrandon

This is a dumb way of thinking. All of software was built on top of the work of other developers.
GamersNexus@GamersNexus

@PatrickMoorhead If you used tokens and AI, you did not, in fact, "personally build" it. Millions of people whose work was stolen built it. You benefited from it.

It's always interesting to me to see people who enjoy Code for the outcome. My joy in coding is in the theory and the tradeoffs that are made, so I tend to be a low-output type of dev, and AI didn't change much for me (except how often I debug someone else's code)
zack@zack_overflow

This has to be a joke. Reading documentation / stack overflow were the absolute least fun parts of writing code Now you can have agents do that for you, while you actually write the fun parts of the code Or let them do all the work, and extract all the dopamine from building 10x faster

@1ovthafew I haven't touched OSS Issues in a while, but that is very sad to hear. It's a shame reporters aren't taking more accountability for what they're providing.

@CrainWWR The overwhelming majority of issue reports we receive are barely comprehensible. They do not function as useful documentation.

I still struggle to understand the mentality of folks who believe that filing a bug report with no fix against an open source project is making some sort of "contribution". No: a bug report is a request for someone else who has a family and hobbies to do work for you for free.

@James_M_South double shift is the universal "idk" menu for Jetbrains It's the only esoteric keyboard shortcut you need, since it covers basically all of them at once.

Where is the equivalent to this menu in Rider? I cannot find it and refuse to learn esoteric keyboad shortcuts.
