I’ll be honest, I would’ve thought Shakira’s English album was a bigger seller than Julio’s here. She’s always had a giant presence, even doing the Super Bowl! OFV2, with “Hips Don’t Lie,” is only 3x Plat as of 2025.

For “English” albums, Julio and Shakira are tied, with “1100 Bel Air Place” and “Laundry Service” both being certified 4x platinum for 4 million copies. Julio hasn’t updated the certification since 1994. Enrique doesn’t have any multi-plats, but also has very outdated certs.

Julio, by Julio Iglesias. Released in 1983 and certified 2x platinum in 1994 for 2 million copies sold in the US. At the time, it was the record for a non-English album, and nowadays is only surpassed by Selena Quintanilla’s “Dreaming of You.”

Pies Descalzos was quoted at 1.1M by Sony in Oct 1998, and different sources place it higher. Again, not certified for that amount, though given her huge crowd in Brazil recently, it makes sense. Singing in Portuguese helped her sales immensely.

CBS (Sony) pegged Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at “nearly 1 million” by Jan 1985, and various newspapers place it at 1.5-2M afterwards, as well as “Bad” 1M+. Not certified though. 1 million+ of course is phenomenal for any album in Brazil, especially an English one.
