Growing up in the early 80s, I watched movies about cannibal bikers wreaking havoc, mega-corps owning everything, underdog rebels fighting dystopian dictators, AI taking over the world, and mysterious plagues killing everyone. Today, those films turned out to be training videos!

I tend to believe the latter changes came with the changes in the characters--from neutral on "wokeness" to pushing it as a narrative.
