@CeefaxS @Jenny_1884 You know exactly what was meant.
Most people use “Makerfield” as shorthand for the constituency and the communities within it, not as a geography lesson.
Interesting that this is the point being challenged rather than the substance.
English

@Credhedz @Jenny_1884 Seriously ‘places like Makerfield’?! It’s not a town! Makerfield doesn’t exist other than in the sense of a voting ward.
English

@BarryGardiner @AndyBurnhamGM Hope and assurance are easy to offer from a stage.
People want to know what will materially improve:
lower bills, safer streets, affordable homes, better wages and functioning public services.
Politics can’t survive forever on branding and mood music.
English

At yesterday’s launch of @AndyBurnhamGM’s Makerfield campaign he spoke for all the people who the years of austerity have left behind.
He offered hope and assurance for the future.

English

@AndyBurnhamGM @BurnsideWasTosh Burnham always mistakes branding for proof.
You can have investment, glossy regen & still leave many communities feeling overlooked, overtaxed and no better off.
That’s the real test - not social media slogans.
Growth for developers isn’t always prosperity for working people💪
English

@BurnsideWasTosh Yeh, GM Is bankrupt, isn’t it?
No, it’s the fastest-growing city-region in the UK with rock-solid finances 😉👍🏻

#Makerfield voters,
If a candidate needs half the parliamentary party shipped in for a photoshoot, maybe the “man of the people” act isn’t landing naturally.
Less like grassroots politics and more like Westminster staging; Makerfield deserves representation not a PR operation.
English

The political equivalent of bringing an entire PR department to knock on one door. This isn’t campaigning. It’s a corporate rebrand exercise for the next leadership shortlist.
If he’s such a natural northern champion, why does it take half the parliamentary party to market him?

Now that’s what I call a @YoungLabourUK campaign day! Sun’s out for @UKLabour @andy4makerfield! Great to join @LucyMPowell and so many Labour MPs in Makerfield.
English

@andy4makerfield RED FLAG
When someone says they are “in it for [me]”
“In [what]” exactly?
Labour ditched you twice before, you still avoid responsibility for that defeat - isolating me from the very Labour you claim to defeat that you’re also standing for.
Which is it?
Think this is a con.
English

@ToryFibs He had forgot that his neighbours could stand by him. And then…:
Henry Jameson@HenryJameson18
Andy Burnham says 'I love this place' which is odd given it was his third choice of location to stand as MP...
English

@ToryFibs “Local lad standing for community” Nonsense. Half of the work has been done for him.
Have we forget Josh Simons? Makerfield had a Labour MP.
It was that important to Andy that he never thought to sacrifice his Mayoral role and stand earlier?
What drastically changed with Labour?
English

‘“This is not business as usual,” he said. “This is a change by-election.” At last, I thought, we might get some idea of what he means by this. After all, it is quite important. He is bidding to replace a prime minister who disappointed people because he offered the empty promise of “change”, and who delivered what most people thought was more of the same. So let us hear how Burnham is going to bring real change, as opposed to just repeating the word. All we got, though, was 15 minutes of nothing.’

@andy4makerfield Many will have a lingering cynicism and a reluctance to trust even the simplest of messages from Labour.
Put your money where your mouth is and cast doubters aside.
Challenge
Prove your conviction by risking tangible gain on your claim: Forfeit entire PM salary, if you get in.

@PeteSanford @Gindy kitchen sink drama. No better setting than for a bit of vote-rigging.
Did she have the bourbons to the ready - democracy’s perfect mascot: two identical-looking sides pretending to offer a choice, while the real decision’s already been stuffed into the middle.

RAYNER: RUINED...
Angela Rayner now embroiled in ‘election fraud row’
Former deputy PM denies involvement after police arrest five people over claims that fake independent candidates were entered in poll.
Angela Rayner has been drawn into a growing controversy connected to an alleged vote‑rigging scheme in her local area.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that five people — four men and one woman, aged between 23 and 47 — were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of taking part in a conspiracy to defraud.
The investigation centres on claims that individuals posing as independent candidates were deliberately added to the ballot in Tameside council elections, which sit within Rayner’s Ashton‑under‑Lyne constituency.
The purpose, according to the allegations, was to siphon votes away from rival parties.
Reports suggest the operation involved figures linked to the Tameside Labour group, and that at least one discussion about the plan allegedly occurred inside Rayner’s own kitchen.
In the St Peter’s ward contest, Labour’s Atta ul‑Rasool — previously vice‑chair of the Ashton‑under‑Lyne Labour branch — won the seat by a margin of 177 votes over independent candidate Ahmed Mehmood.
The two individuals accused of being “fake” independents collectively received 291 votes.
Notably, St Peter’s was the only ward in Tameside to elect a Labour councillor on 7 May;
Reform UK captured the remaining 18 seats, leaving the council with no overall control.
MS RAYNER PROTESTS HER INNOCENCE..
But She Would, Wouldn't She??

@PolitlcsUK Starmer - the boil on the arse of Burnham’s campaign who can’t be lanced.
And he’s inviting warts and all. This is priceless.
English

@KarlTurnerMP @samaritans Is it venting (reciprocal) or dumping (one-sided)?
Chief whip - like anyone - is entitled to experience compassion fatigue and draw a line under it. If he’s not a professional therapist, it is healthy to have limits.
Think again. He’s being kind.
You’re being hostile.
English

The chief whips response to me today after I raised the smears and briefings against me on mental health. Remember @Samaritans are there for you. If you are finding this difficult please don’t think that you are alone. They don’t judge, they just listen.

English

@policylaila That the electorate worked hard to get.
And are now expected to go out again for what they got to win back what was given up by the same party out to get them back only to realise it’s to back the same PM they wanted gone.
That’s some ego trip for Starmer and the Labour brigade.
English

What is clear from this one short video is that Andy Burnham will give Labour something they have not had since Blair, the ability to connect with the people in a positive, hopeful way. Not bitter, nor divisive, but with a vision for a better future.

Labour: Enemies of the people
MPs with no employment experience outside party politics emerge from within the machine, working as researchers, campaigners or parliamentary assistants before being parachuted into a safe seat. Andy Burnham is prime example. spiked-online.com/2026/05/16/lab…
