Having rich friends isn’t like having fit friends If you hang out with fit people, you’ll likely learn what it takes to get fit If you hang out with rich people, you’ll learn what it’s like to spend money, but it’s unlikely to make you rich. If anything it’ll do the opposite.

@nikitabier An anecdote for you X is definitely feeling off I used to use it as my default news app. I liked it because I felt I was getting unfiltered information directly from the source. I used to use it for the public discourse but I feel like that’s all gone. The only guy left that’s doing that is @paulg Most of my timeline now is slop. Accounts that are always gaming the new version of the algo. The newest proliferation of this is the short story phenomenon which i think is stupid. AI videos. Trashy click baity tweets: “10 reasons you’re addicted to dopamine “ I sincerely wish you luck bringing it back around and I hope I’m still here when it happens!

@CridgeJason I agree with you there and, I want to make it understood I’m not trying to argue or be contrarian to you, I’m genuinely curious why it seems I’m able to silence alerts when people, and even my own research after this talk, says I shouldn’t be able to do that.

12:58am Let’s wake up the entire province of 5.5m people some of who are an 18hr + drive from the place this happened Who’s making these calls? Why wasn’t this limited to a geographic area?

You can send more alerts as time progresses. They'd even be MORE effectively if timing was more appropriate. If you're on the look out for a red Dodge, what's better: getting the alert 2 hours before the car is expected to be in your area, or 14 hours before it's expected to be there? Either way it's not a crazy conversation to have.

@CridgeJason I’m aware of BC’s size I live in it, I’m saying if you focus in one area alone what if the abductor slips that area? Manages to get out of it and makes it to even the Okanagan? It’s just eyes. As I said, my family and I have iPhones they weren’t woken up. I asked this morning

Geographically BC is absolutely massive. I'm not saying don't send them, I'm saying send them more appropriately. It takes the same amount of time to drive from Vancouver to the northern edge of BC as it does to drive from Vancouver to the border of Mexico. You're going to have to take my word for it, my iPhone an many in Canada have had this feature permanently removed. Amber Alerts and all emergency alerts override silent mode.

@CridgeJason My family have iPhones and use the “action button” to put it into silent mode. None of us were woken up so I can only assume you have android? If you do I can’t help you there. As for the alert line you’re being hyperbolic comparing a Canada wide alert vs provincial

I was surprised the last tweet blew up so much. Nuance aside, it's crazy how few people can dialogue with someone they disagree with in a semi respectful manner. Society is cooked.

Where’s the line to stop the notification? They went missing 4 hours before they sent it. 10 hour travelling distance? 15 hour travelling distance? 5 day travelling distance? Are we going to alert someone in Toronto if someone goes missing in Victoria? Genuinely want to know what you think the right answer is.

@CridgeJason Dude put your phone on silent if it’s an issue? I had mine on silent, didn’t wake me up. It’s an alert for missing kids man. What if they place it in a certain area, they slip that area and carry on? It’s to alert people so they are aware.

@CridgeJason Ok, so the remote communities. Missing kids alert still isn't a call to be that ticked about, no matter the time. Roll your eyes, be slightly annoyed, and go back to sleep dude.

Of all the things to complain about, missing kids isn't it. Also, where is an 18hr drive away in the same province? Driving from the middle of Alberta to Vancouver is a 12 hr drive so I'm finding that time hard to believe. Unless he's counting extreme remote communities.
