@aschaechterle @showfortennis @PatrickMcEnroe @WSJopinion And fundraise to hire serious dedicated marketing people whether Usta or ITA who’s full time job is to promote our product so it’s not all on the schools (who usually don’t try that hard) or the coaches (some are trying but it’s a big job out of their expertise)

@showfortennis @PatrickMcEnroe @WSJopinion We desperately need USTA to market college tennis...it’s not working to leave it up to individual coaches or to the ITA. Step 1 would be USTA recognizing the importance. Step 2 would be having a USTA marketing team push year round. Combo of grassroots attendance and TV airtime.

The elite American players usually find their way. The bigger issue is the overall numbers — and the shrinking opportunities for non-elite American players who used to see college tennis as a real pathway. That pathway matters. It mattered to me. Thanks again to @WSJopinion for giving me the space to make the case.

The professionalization of college sports is reshaping athletic programs beyond football and basketball, writes @PatrickMcEnroe . on.wsj.com/494jX20

How many big-time NCAA athletes have you heard advocating to be reclassified as an employee? How many have you heard express a burning desire to join a union? Now... How many from OUTSIDE of NCAA Athletics have you heard from advocating for that mess? 🤔
NIL 𝘯𝘰𝘵 NLI@NILnotNLI

Dig deep into the bios of many of the self-proclaimed "advocates" who are so oddly relentlessly pushing collective bargaining in NCAA college sports... Many are heavily invested in that ghost union (which shall not be named). A union which athletes simply: DO. NOT. WANT.

@showfortennis Don’t agree with this take, that’s a little blip in the overall budget, and the cost would be the same in the spring. It’s more frustrating that cutting 2 programs that only cost 2.5 mil combined- fraction of department budget and about the cost of a point guard for hoops now

This comes 1 day after college tennis makes it official that NCAA Individuals will be hosted in the fall Asking schools, even big schools with big budgets to fund a tennis team for both fall & spring seasons is a WILD ask when you consider where college athletics are right now
notyourcountryclub@showfortennis

This is a travesty We’ve been talking about programs getting cut for a while now, but to see it happen to a P4 program….IN THE SEC… “We concluded that we are unable to provide the level of support necessary for our tennis programs to consistently compete.” - @HunterYurachek

...NOBODY is generating that much direct athletic revenue from tennis. Just three schools report more than 2M in total revenue. Only 20 report more than 1M. It's often not a ticketed sport. To the extent it generates revenue (and it does), it wont show up on an MFRS report

Just for some context here, that $3,284 mark is the third lowest revenue line in the COUNTRY, only ahead of Cal State Fullerton and Kennesaw State. Central Arkansas, for example, reported over $300K in tennis revenue. that being said... (1/2)
Brandon Marcello@bmarcello

The Arkansas men's and women's tennis programs spent a combined $2.5 million and brought in $3,284 in revenue for the 2024-25 reporting year, according to the school's NCAA Membership Financial Reporting Survey.

@bmarcello Smart move. Student athletes asked for this. Wanna get paid your fair share? If your sport doesn’t generate a profit you’re at risk of the chopping block. Business is business

Simple changes: 5-years after HS graduation anywhere in world (or 19 years old) to have 4 years of eligibility. 1-Free transfer with no sit out. 2nd one and you must sit a year. After 5-years, no matter what, you are done in college athletics.

It has absolutely zero to do with academics and everything to do with cornering the market by trapping talent in one place like they used to be able to do … Go play in somebody else face Mr. Sankey 🙄💤
