Three missile alerts issued in the UAE today, the first in just under a month since the ceasefire was announced in early April. Our team in the UAE reported three in Dubai and one alarm in Abu Dhabi.

The Strait activity today in a nutshell 🥜 * Trump announced a vessel *guiding* plan “Project Freedom” to get stranded ships out of the Persian Gulf. NOT to be confused with a US naval *escort* plan * JMIC, a multinational body that analyzes security threats in the area, advised vessels to consider crossing the waterway through Omani waters. It warned of the presence of mines north of Omani waters. * UKMTO flagged that a tanker had been targeted by projectiles north of the UAE port of Fujairah . That’s less than a day after a report of a bulk carrier being attacked by small boats. * Iranian media Fars reported a strike on a US frigate near the Gulf of Oman port * Tasnim, another Iranian news agency, announced the government had “redefined the control zone” in the Strait and effectively set out maritime borders within which Tehran would regulate shipping traffic * The US denied a report by Iranian media that the country had struck an American naval vessel with missiles * Meanwhile, the UAE condemned an attack on a national tanker affiliated with ADNOC while passing through the Strait (see above) * UAE residents got a missile alert warning (first one since the ceasefire) * US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on US allies and China to join in on the American operation to guide vessels through the Strait  also says “We have absolute control of the strait.” Dire straits.

Tehran appears increasingly confident that it holds the upper hand in the negotiations, based on what it views as its achievements during the war.
