He was talking about character creation. You couldn't tilt the camera during that. Again, yes this sucks, but amazingly you have to look for it, it's not like the black shorts are obvious. Even professionals often use higher pitched tones, cute expressions, and overly cheerful delivery. Japan literally has mascots/anime groups for districts and government departments to appear more friendly and welcoming. Cuteness in Japan is a social language, not a sign of infantilization. In the West, cuteness is often linked to childlikeness, which then gets associated with pedophilia. But in Japan, it is just an aesthetic, and anyone regardless of age can express it.
