Violence has no place in our homes, our streets, our work, our movements, or our dreams. This #16Days, we demand a world where every woman, girl, & gender-diverse person can live, love, organise, & imagine in safety. Freedom from violence is our right. Everywhere we are. #EndGBV

May this profound national loss serve as a powerful catalyst, uniting all South Sudanese in enduring peace - just as Lt. Gen. Dak would have wished. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Archive - Office of Former S. Sudan VP Dr. Bol Mel@vpsouthsudan

𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 Earlier today, Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel represented His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit at the Memorial Service and State Burial of Lt. Gen. David Majur Dak. Military personnel, senior government officials, and citizens were in attendance - united in grief and respect. The Vice President eulogized Lt. Gen. David Majur Dak as a true hero - a man of remarkable courage, integrity, selflessness and patriotism who devoted his life to the service and welfare of South Sudan. Addressing the grieving family, the Vice President conveyed the nation's profound sympathy, assuring them of His Excellency the President's support: “The country shares in your grief, and His Excellency the President will fully support you. The Lt. General’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.” Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel emphasized the urgent need for honest and patriotic dialogue, anchored firmly in the rule of law. He reiterated the government's commitment to lasting peace through critical steps including civilian disarmament and the unification of all armed forces under the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces and the nation's sole Commander-in-Chief, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit. And, while strongly condemning illegal forces for intimidating and harming civilians, the Vice President urged all aggrieved parties to seek reconciliation rather than revenge - asserting that South Sudan belongs to each of us equally. Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel also outlined the Economic Cluster’s masterplan for strengthening our economy; but reminded everyone that peace remains the essential foundation for economic prosperity and national development. Additionally, he also called for thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding Lt. Gen. Dak’s death and the broader security situation involved. The VP also appealed to the international community to sustain their valued support for South Sudan’s journey to peace. It is the Vice President’s earnest hope that this profound national loss serves as a powerful catalyst, uniting all South Sudanese in enduring peace - just as Lt. Gen. Dak would have wished. Peace is our only path forward; peace is the promise we owe to ourselves and future generations of South Sudan.

At 7am, I receive a surpise call from a young lawyer. I would hear people quarreling. He told me his land lord was evicting him. He has gone 8 months with no pay. His boss instead terminated his employment when he demanded to be paid. I paid for his rent arrears. He has a smile.
