I have had such amazing school library mentors and I have been blessed to mentor others. As educators we must gather our courage and time and mentor young people. Be there to support, motivate and cheer them on their way.

Sharyland ISD hosted the secondary Battle of the Books Contest on Friday, January 30th. Five middle school teams and 3 high school teams competed. Congratulations to John H. Shary Elementary. Their middle school team of 4 sixth grade students won the Middle School Championship. They are coached by librarian Monica Silva. Congratulations to Sharyland High School. They won the High School Championship. They are coached by librarian Nicole H. Cruz. This is the 8th year for the competition. Both advancing schools will travel to Rio Grande City Grulla ISD to compete against all later this month for the Regional Battle of the Books Contest. Good Luck!

On Friday, January 16th -52 students competed in the 8th Annual Sharyland ISD Battle of the Books for Elementary (3rd-5th grades) and JR (1st-2nd grades) Contest. All students enjoyed reading, discussing and quizzing over books that were selected by the Region One Battle of the Books Committee. Students prepared for the contest by reading the books and practicing with their coaches each week. The winning team for the elementary division is John H Shary. Their coach is librarian Monica Silva. The winning team for the junior division is RD Martinez Elementary. Their coach is librarian Oneida Aleman. Congratulations to all students. The winning teams advance to Regional Competition in February at Rio Grande City Grulla ISD.
