Here's the thing - the genocides never actually ended, and these "self evident truths" of liberalism continue to form the political and economic cover that helps make it possible
trece@luckynumrotrece

@CrypticSnapper @maoisthnvx_25 Consider this: The revolution that began in 1776 continues today. We the People hold these truths to be self-evident: that ALL men are created equal. That does not preclude, but in fact REQUIRES recognition of and recompense for the twin genocides of this nation's founding.

MOVE has never died out. Their members continue to fight for freedom in Philly and have been at the forefront of anti carceral struggles. Their biggest supporter, Mumia, continues to be locked up in prison because of his heroic journalism around MOVE

Anniversary of MOVE bombing today - as an organization, MOVE was completely unafraid of 1) protesting, in their words, anything and everything and 2) exerted their power through the occupation of physical space. MOVE was a world unto itself that shines a path for a better left

@kampongovan Agree and disagree - political socialization within the Democratic party is a huge issue for incentive structures. Rotating progressive NGO staffers, needing to fundraise if you want to be any sort of committee chair, and ofc being in a closed Dem caucus

what this thoughtful thread misdiagnoses is that the primary obstacle to our ability to act as a party is not our partisan affiliation but our discipline, operational independence, and incentive structure, and the latter must change before the former is a meaningful contradiction
nice omar 🟥@whoisomariam

DSA starts a party. Within a region (eg.: Commie Corridor), DSA will refuse to endorse anyone who isn’t running on its ballot line. If you are running for office where DSA’s voice and ground game is the strongest, and you want its support, you must run within the Party. 🧵

Why are you, a socialist, talking about 1776 and not 1865? The United States has genuine democracy and genuine revolution in its history—it was strangled in the crib. We have to finish Reconstruction.

@amithecommie So multiple things can be true - US colonists were drawing on Republican traditions that also had appeal for colonized people fighting for their political freedom - yet this doesn't change the class character of the American revolution in light of settler colonialism

@amithecommie While there are Republican traditions here of course, the fundamental "democratic rights" espoused were designed to be exclusionary. Various indigenous nations faced extermination due to a collapse of legal treaties with the British protecting them from land grabbing

@amithecommie But without understanding that there is a national question here, and that in a settler colony, as Fanon argued, "the cause becomes the consequence" - class stratification occured along specifically racial and national lines, with there being an oppressor and oppressed nations

Does that "American working class" include slaves? Or how about indigenous people? Or is it the case that the "American working class" was also formed in and through this constitutive colonial domination, which also enabled super wages for sections of the white working class
amiyah 🪶🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸@amithecommie

people are being very dishonest about this clip and not understanding she's trying to ground the working class political project in the national tradition of the american working class. (1/3)

@maoisthnvx_25 Periyar isn't perfect, but Dravidianism premised on the idea of a rational movement against caste that wasn't afraid to try to burn down thousands of years of established order, and recognized this as the only actual way forward for social development. Much to learn!

Sanathanam that divides people should be abolished: Udhayanidhi Stalin inside Tamil Nadu Assembly. Not one person objects. In 2024, the Supreme Court had pulled up Udhayanidhi for similar comments, calling them abuse of freedom of speech and religion

the soviet union is least interesting and relevant as an avatar of the western workers' movement, most interesting as an avatar of mass third world anticolonial struggle. nowhere is the latter role clearer than in WW2, even if the result would be its absorption by the amerikans

A bunch of British colonists getting mad at parliament for restricting their ability to land grab from natives through which they forged a counter-revolutionary whiteness isn't decolonial
Alain Beidou@avispartan1

@nukedwest Actually it was a successful decolonial movement and that's why decolonization is evil.
