Imagine using your Tesla stock as margin to trade BTC when the perfect entry shows up but you lack liquidity. I just found out Bitget's rToken lets me do exactly that. Unlike Tesla for example with a regular broker, you buy the stock, hold it, and wait for it to appreciate over time. Nothing wrong with that, but your money is basically just sitting there unless you decide to sell or borrow against it. A lot of tokenized stock products I’ve seen don’t really change that. They just put the stock onchain without adding much extra value. That’s why I decided to spend some time testing Bitget’s rToken to see if it was actually different or just another RWA narrative. The first thing I noticed was how smooth everything felt. Orders are connected to NASDAQ and NYSE liquidity instead of relying only on market makers, so execution was quick and I didn’t notice much slippage. The 24/7 trading was another thing I didn’t think I’d care about until I tried it. Not having to wait for market hours is actually pretty convenient. What interested me most though was the capital efficiency. Instead of just holding the stock, you can still receive dividends in USDT (for dividend-paying stocks) while using the same position as trading margin or collateral. That means the asset is doing more than just sitting in your portfolio, which is something traditional brokers don’t really offer in the same way. I also like that the tokens are backed 1:1 by real shares held through regulated custodians. It gives a bit more confidence knowing there’s actual backing instead of it being another synthetic product. I’m interested to see how they handle things like stock splits, mergers, special dividends, and how the experience holds up for people investing a few hundred dollars instead of much larger portfolios. I’d also like to see more stocks added over time and wider regional access. But if you’re already active in crypto and want your stock holdings to actually be usable instead of just sitting there, this feels like one of the more interesting approaches I’ve tried. I’ve been looking into tokenized stocks recently, and one question keeps coming to mind: If you tokenize a stock but can’t really do anything with it, what’s the point? Take $10K in Apple as an example. With a traditional broker, you buy AAPL, earn dividends if you’re eligible, and hold it for the long term. It works well, but your shares mostly just sit there unless you sell them or use your broker’s margin. A lot of tokenized stock products aren’t that different, they give you onchain exposure, but the token itself doesn’t add much utility. What caught my attention about Bitget’s rToken is that it’s trying to go a step further. The tokens are backed 1:1 by real shares held through licensed brokers, and they’re designed to be usable, not just held. You can use them as trading margin, while still having access to dividends and liquidity connected to traditional markets. That doesn’t automatically make it the better choice. Traditional brokers still have advantages, especially if you’re a long term investor who wants research tools, retirement accounts, and a familiar investing experience. For me, it comes down to how I plan to use the asset. Instead of being just active in crypto, I’d probably have a stock position that can do more than just sit in my portfolio. I’m still curious to see how rToken expands from here. Things like more supported stocks, wider regional access, and how it handles corporate actions over time. That’s what will determine whether it becomes something I’d use regularly.
