Let's talk about narratives. Here are the weekly best/worst performing narratives of 2023 in one image. I find it very informative and I've seriously leveled up my game as a narrative trader from this. Here are my top 10 takeaways: 1️⃣ A narrative can't be THE top performer for more than a month. 2️⃣ Top-performer narratives will usually be the worst performer within a 2 months window after it reaches peak euphoria. 3️⃣ New narratives tend to outperfoorm (Meme 2.0, Telegram Bots, Friend Tech) 4️⃣ Established narratives with good tech and pmf might perform well but are rarely The top performer narrative (alt L1s, L2s, Perp Dex, etc.) 5️⃣ More sophisticated narratives are rarely among top performers (privacy, options, LMs, etc.) 6️⃣ New trending narratives tend to do well for 3 to 5 weeks. Taking profits too early is a mistake. 7️⃣ New trending narratives tend to not do well after 5 weeks. Not taking profits is a mistake. 8️⃣ With good knowledge and experience, it's not hard to focus on the 20% of the most promising narratives. (Game-Fi will have its time but it' won't happen in 2023). Timing is the key element. 9️⃣ Fading a new narrative at an early stage is not worth it. Optimize for RR instead of win rate. 🔟 The initiator of new narratives often continue to dominate for longtime (PEPE, Unibot, Friend Tech) and should not be ignored with "I'm late to this" mindset.
