Another progressive gets it! Under no circumstances, do you bail out the bankers. But you do protect the depositors who had nothing to do with this (TYT has no money in SVB). If you don’t assure people that their money is safe, they’re going to have to go to the big banks!

The rule change wasn’t for SVB or to cover up bad actors.
The rule change was so guys like me didn’t pull funds from 8 regional banks tomorrow morning (which was the plan at 9:01 AM).
The VC crying was ridiculous, I agree.
But the regulators made the right call and I’m proud to be an American.

SVB didn’t just “make a mistake.”
They consciously sought and achieved higher yields for their depositors by making riskier choices than other banks.
Will depositors who are getting bailed out get to keep the higher interest they received as a result of that condemned behavior?

Just to be clear none of this money is coming from taxpayers. It’s coming from a tax on banks that funds the FDIF. We should raise the premium payments for banks to protect depositors for payroll & regional banks and to prevent consolidation. That is progressive policy!
