I had to say this one too many times: Art created from stolen art, even if it looks “new” now, was still created from *gasp* stolen art! if AI was never trained on stolen work, you would not be able to make your “new” art. That’s the end of the story.

@Cryptoism888 @theartofadriane The difference is that she sat down and created the art from nothing. She didn't take other people's art stitch it together and claim to have drawn it. Imagine doing that in the music industry lmao you'd be sued into the ground!

@Crystal_Fier @LaurynIpsum @rlinarts no that's not how the AI works.... the engine generates what it thinks would look like a painting. it's creating these based on patterns. It's not copy-pasting bits of art from other artists. Anyone that thinks that doesn't really understand how the engines work.

@LaurynIpsum @rlinarts It's entirely possible that these are watermarks from photography studios, which would be more likely, since people are seeding this AI with photos.

I’m cropping these for privacy reasons/because I’m not trying to call out any one individual. These are all Lensa portraits where the mangled remains of an artist’s signature is still visible. That’s the remains of the signature of one of the multiple artists it stole from. A 🧵

I want to emphasize this is NOT a call-out post. This is NOT about anyone whose cropped portrait is here. I used so many to illustrate how ubiquitous the issue is. Seeing the long stream of mangled signatures really helps visualize the problem.

@LaurynIpsum You know those aren't REAL signatures right? They are what the AI thinks it should add to paintings, because it has seen other paintings include scribbles like that. it's not ACTUAL signatures 😂😂😂😂😂

These are all from posts from friends on my timeline. It didn’t take much searching to find portraits with signature fragments. Most people’s sets have at least one.

Look, if everyone is worried about students cheating on essays for AI, instructors can just cheat right back. I asked OpenAI to give me an essay question & make a rubric for grading. I had GPT-3 actually write the essay. I then had the OpenAI grade the essay & give comments. ✅

On the New Year’s Eve, everybody’s into making predictions Many come up with futuristic hypotheses, as if competing to single out the wildest, and even the most absurd ones. Here’s our humble contribution. What can happen in 2023:

@MedvedevRussiaE Those are definitely the most absurd predictions I’ve ever heard, while also showing astonishing lack of awareness of the progress of artificial intelligence and sustainable energy.

@foxville_art ya. um.. "stolen art" as much as an artist "steals" for their work. The AI creates based on it's training to analyze other images. It doesn't blatantly copy, unless told to do so. It's the users that are the issue, not the technology. I would recommend learning how to use it

@foxville_art Did you read the book? Hardly a masterpiece. But if someone with YOUR skills learned to use the AI, just imagine how much quicker you could produce amazing stories that could be sold? They won't make a masterpiece above your own personal ability though. So stop fretting

@katriadoodles the problem isn't with the AI but the people that use it. If I produce an image and someone can claim it looks an awful lot like theirs, and they can prove that the AI used their image, then it would amount to plagiarism. But if the image is one of a kind, then it is "creation"

@theartofadriane As long as none of the art is recognizable as a direct copy of another's work, any lawsuit wouldn't hold in court, fam. But good luck claiming the art was "stolen"

@ammaar And which artists work did you steal from who should ACTUALLY be paid and credited for the creation of this book? Please look into how this harms artists and how you have stolen artist’s lifelong and COPYRIGHTED hard work. Without it, you would not have been able to make this.
