Pinning this tweet as a predictor of things to come even IF the Dems win both Georgia seats. Joe Manchin D WV has voted with Trump almost 62% of the time and is not a reliable D vote by any means. So dont count your chickens brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/20…

🇸🇦 One of the World's Oldest Churches from the 4th Century in Saudi Arabia. ⛪️ The Jubail Church, discovered by chance in 1986, is a historic site belonging to the Nestorian tradition (Church of the East) and is considered one of the oldest surviving church structures in the world, dating back to the 4th century. Located near the city of Jubail in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia along the Gulf, the structure was built by Christian communities and clergy active along the trade routes between Mesopotamia and the Gulf, likely including local populations under the cultural influence of the Lakhmid Kingdom that dominated the region at the time. Constructed of mud-brick among the desert dunes, the church features clearly visible carved cross motifs on its walls; the site serves as one of the most concrete architectural proofs of the region's rich pre-Islamic religious diversity and the presence of an extensive episcopal network that once spread along the Gulf coast.

The fact that brain fog is kicking your ass doesn't mean what you think, want, & need isn't valid. So you're struggling to think straight & remember things. You still deserve to be listened to, supported, & believed. Don't let Trauma Brain convince you to shame shrivel.

In case anyone isn’t aware, Trump is demanding Zambia to hand over its mineral rights by end of day tomorrow or the U.S. gov’t will cut off the country’s access to the AIDS medications that are literally keeping its citizens alive. Just thought y’all should know.

Worst tooth infection of my life has spread around my mouth. Broken tooth was neglected due to my mother’s stroke. I have had ongoing oral reconstructive surgeries since my jaw was locked shut from the car crash in 2009. Dentist refused extraction, requiring “clearance” from oncology to say it’s ok to operate as the tooth requires my gums to be cut open. Dentist lectured me about the dangers of sugar and the apologises when he reads I was in a near fatal car crash and that’s what ruined my teeth. Very cool. Face is swollen and has a pulse even after 24 hrs on antibiotic. I swear I’ve never experienced pain like this in my life, I still cannot move my bottom lip. Oncology refuses to give clearance. Yes, really. Making me drive an hour there in order to wait over the weekend and then come back with “approval to proceed.” Awake for 50 hours by this point, pacing and crying. Cat is comforting me. Dentist flat out tells me he will not prescribe narcotics for pain medicine, even though my history shows I do well with pain medicine/chronic cancer pain relief, I’m allergic to NSAIDS. Yes, really. L Fails to tell me they are closed today. PCP office hears me crying and fights for me, gets a different doctor to prescribe a day or two worth of pain medicine. Says he left an “educating and corrective” message for the young dentist. Self soothing by saying “it will be ok” over and over times 100. I’m going to try and sleep again.

Worth a read! 😍 My mom wanted to send me homemade pickles. But I said ‘no’. I was 27, living in New York, working on Wall Street. I didn't need pickles shipped across the world. The shipping would cost more than buying them here. Three years later, I read the psychologist take on what I'd actually done. When you reject someone's offer to help, you're not just declining assistance. You're declining their need to matter to you! Benjamin Franklin figured this out in 1736. He had a rival in the Pennsylvania legislature who hated him. Instead of trying to win him over with favors, Franklin asked the rival to lend him a rare book. The rival agreed. They became lifelong friends. It's called the Ben Franklin effect. When people do something for you, they convince themselves they must like you. Otherwise, why would they help? My mom didn't want to send pickles because I needed them. She wanted to send them because SHE needed to feel useful to me. To feel like despite the ocean between us, she still had a role in my life. Every time I said "I'll manage," I was taking that away from her. Here's what I learned after a decade of living away from home: → Accepting small favors isn't about you needing help. It's about letting people you love feel needed. Your dad wants to transfer ₹5000 even though you earn well? Let him. Your friend wants to pick you up from the airport even though Uber exists? Say yes. Your partner wants to make you tea even though you can make it yourself? Accept it. The people who love you don't want to solve your big problems. They want to matter in your small moments. Let them. #lifelesson

(I'm a high school history teacher. Midway through the semester we started covering the Civil Rights Movement. I showed a documentary with footage from protests and sit-ins. A few days after a quiz on the subject, I got a furious phone call from a parent.) Father: "If you don't tell me who authorized this propaganda, I'm filing a complaint with the district TODAY" Me: "Uh... good afternoon, sir. I'm [My Name], I teach U.S. History. What exactly are you referring to?" Father: "I'm talking about YOU filling my daughter's head with lies about American history and making her think this country was built on racism" Me: "I'm sorry, what?" Father: "You showed her a film depicting America as some evil oppressive nightmare! She came home crying saying she was ashamed to be American" Me: "What's your daughter's name, sir?" He told me and I immediately remembered her because she was the most engaged student during that entire unit, asking thoughtful questions and taking detailed notes. Father: "You liberal piece of garbage, I won't have you brainwashing our kids with revisionist nonsense! The Civil Rights Movement didn't happen the way you're teaching it! You're pushing a political agenda" Me: "Sir, with all due respect, how can you possibly deny that the Civil Rights Movement happened?" Father: "What?" Me: "We're literally teaching documented American history. The protests, the marches, the legislation, these are verifiable historical events with mountains of evidence, photographs, video footage, and living witnesses. There's no agenda here. This is just factual history that happened within living memory." Father: "You're distorting the truth" Me: "Sir, I'm very sorry, but if you're going to deny well-documented historical events that fundamentally shaped modern America, then I can't help you. I strongly encourage you to speak with your daughter about what she's actually learning rather than assuming the worst." I politely ended the call. The next day I showed another documentary, this time about the Freedom Riders. And naturally, that man's daughter was completely captivated, taking notes furiously and asking to borrow books on the subject. I think I might've inspired a future historian. “Should schools teach the full truth of history, even when it makes people uncomfortable?”
