We encourage families—including parents, grandparents, caretakers, and children—individuals, vendors, volunteers, staff in nearby businesses, and anyone affected to come as they are. Whether you’re seeking comfort, connection, or simply a quiet place to be, the Centre is for you.

“Because the community that we support are within the intersections of sex work, race, gender and also potentially precarious status with immigration, or migration status, there are many different challenges they face when accessing health care...” thetyee.ca/News/2025/01/2…

@LGJanetAustin @JackWebsterFdn You could have interviewed B.C. trafficking experts (Annalee Lepp, @GAATWCanada, Hayli Millar, Tamara O'Doherty) but you travelled for spokespeople to tell you “everywhere you look someone’s being trafficked.” Then you rode in tuk tuk saying Asian women “look like they’re 14.”

I’m so disappointed that a whole team of journalists could not see any harm in a police ride-along where they deceived sex workers in the hopes they could get a “rescue” for the cameras. How did no one flag how problematic this is? x.com/SWAN_Vancouver…
SWAN Vancouver (@swan-vancouver.bsky.social)@SWAN_Vancouver

It’s hard to believe a reporter would follow police while they pose as clients to trick sex workers into meeting, just so officers could question women about being trafficked. But @CTVVancouver found nothing unethical about this story or police actions:  x.com/ctv_michele/st…

Many anti-trafficking groups make sensational claims, making them some of the worst offenders for spreading trafficking misinformation. One organization recently told Cambridge Today, "Your daughter can be taken while you are downstairs having a coffee in the kitchen."
SWAN Vancouver (@swan-vancouver.bsky.social)@SWAN_Vancouver

Police report trafficking only made up 0.02% of all police-reported crime between 2013-2023, but many NGOs claim, “less than 1 km from you, someone is being trafficked!” Learn about debunked myths and how misguided campaigns harm im/migrant sex workers. swanvancouver.ca/events2024/

Not sure who needs to hear this but parroting talking points from police and govt. press releases is not journalism. “Journalism is printing something that someone does not want printed. Everything else is public relations” – George Orwell
Brishti Basu@brish_ti

@VancouverPD @TheTyee VPD's statement, "Israel-Hamas war fuels increase in hate crimes, protests in 2023", made zero mention of the fact that Arabs, LGBTQ2S+, Indigenous, South Asians had a HIGHER % increase in hate crime reports than antisemitism. CBC & Global News reported exactly what VPD said.

"The CBC Language Guide on the Middle East is a catastrophic oxymoron. The guide prohibits using the term 'colonization' but encourages journalists to provide context by saying Palestinians 'fled or were forced from their homes.'" -@arfadorable mondoweiss.net/2024/10/i-resi…
