I think everyone lies now because people are too stupid to check. International students are subject to the same entry requirements plus IELTS requirements of 6.0-6.5. The other alternative is a foundation year which not many universities do and is essentially a cash grab.
🤍𝕁𝕆🤍@jomickane

How is this fair? British kids have to get 3 As to get into University yet foreign students have to get 2 Cs and 1 D.... for the exact same course.

@HassanRIsmail I haven't so far met one that can tell me how to do a cross product. I can assume the ones who can are eluding me, or (more possibly) that cross producting by hand is like long division. But then, I haven't met one that could code it up either.

Something I find strange is the large number of 'AI labs' being built by 1st or 2nd year undergraduate dropouts. Statistics (big one), linear algebra, and calculus - all of which are literally the core of ML, and especially RL. Are all dropouts really these 'hidden' academics?

She is now a Mother. The world is better off. She's better off, and she can return to school when the child is around 9 years old. The grape is horrible, but the child is also a W. The kid will hopefully be even more of a boon to society than the mother. Who likely would have quit at 40 to raise her family anyway.

My classmate was raped on her way back home from university and got pregnant, but couldn’t get an abortion due to the laws. She had to drop out of university where she was studying medicine. Because of pregnancy and childbirth expenses, she couldn’t continue her studies, left college, started working at a coffee shop, lost the fun of her early twenties, and lost the chance to attend international medical conferences she once dreamt of… all just to give birth to a child she never wanted. People say, “What if the baby you abort grows up and cures cancer?” Okay — but what if the 19-year-old you deny an abortion to grows up and cures cancer? Now she can’t afford to get an education. Instead, she has to take care of a baby. What about her? An actual living human being??? “Abortion ends potential life”… So do property disputes, war, and genocide. You only seem to care about lives when women don’t give birth to them.

@RamiJai123 Lmao, OpenAI and Anthropic don't have video gen and Google, the major US provider of video gen actually has a completely profitable AI effort.

One of the most ridiculous arguments about AI video gen, that really holds no water, is the compute usage. The compute required to make this scene with AI is actually much, much less than the compute required to do it with traditional CGI. The training hours plus the compute on the final generation are much lower than all the rendering compute combined with all the compute needed to build the scene, model the assets, animate, etc.

@HedgieMarkets It is worth it now. HW cost will collapse when AI bubble bursts. Also you get to upgrade to newer generation after rent term.

🦔 HP launched a gaming laptop subscription where you pay monthly but never own the hardware. The high-end option is $130/month for an RTX 5080 Omen Max 16. That same laptop costs $2,110 to buy outright, meaning you'd pay the full price in about 16 months but still own nothing. If you cancel after the first month, you face hefty fees. Canceling the top-tier subscription in month two costs $1,430 plus you have to return the laptop. You can only cancel for free after 13 months, by which point you've paid $1,690 and still have no laptop. HP's justification: "The traditional upgrade cycle keeps most gamers perpetually one step behind. But with access to a new laptop every year, your subscription breaks that cycle completely." My Take This feels like the logical endpoint of the subscription economy. You pay forever, you own nothing, and the company frames it as doing you a favor. HP is betting that people are so conditioned to monthly payments that they won't do the math showing they'd pay full price in 16 months and keep paying after that. Memory chip prices are up 60% because data centers are consuming everything. Hardware costs are rising. And now HP is using the affordability crisis to push a model where you never build equity in anything you use. We've seen this with software, streaming, cars, and now gaming hardware. The pitch is always about flexibility and staying current. The reality is you're perpetually renting your life from companies that figured out recurring revenue beats selling you something once. At least when you finance a laptop you eventually own it. I don't know how we got to a place where "you will own nothing" stopped being a dystopian warning and became a business model. Hedgie🤗

No surprises anyway. If you’ve been around people with Down syndrome, you’d know that their mischievousness is second to none. That said, the reason Hawking attended those invitations is not so complex. Hawking was quadriplegic. And as a quadriplegic, your world shrinks in ways people who walk freely will never fully understand, even if you are a world-renowned scientist. When most of your adult life has been confinement to a wheelchair, when your body becomes the first thing people see before they ever see you, the hunger to be regarded as more than your condition becomes immense. Epstein, whatever else he was, offered a certain kind of access: a room where you were not merely “the disabled genius,” but a man among other men, invited, included, spoken to as though you belonged. And when you have spent years being looked at with pity, being reduced, being handled delicately or dismissed entirely, the temptation of ordinary dignity can become intoxicating. This is not to excuse the moral depravity of Hawking or anyone else who frequented Epstein’s orbit. It is only to explain the psychology: how power, inclusion, and the promise of being seen as fully human can pull even the most unlikely people into rotten places.

Stephen Hawking is mentioned at least 232 times in the Epstein files.
