Cube MTG Amsterdam

@klug_alters I am sort of in the same camp being a casual Lego fan, but there is also a difference. In MTG you can't escape UB if you want to play organized constructed. In Lego you can just choose your own branch and forget about the rest. In MTG I am pretty much confined to Cube nowadays.

Engaging with Magic in the same way, potentially skipping sets entirely, is scary as someone who has consumed Magic religiously for more than 25 years. But I guess ultimately my conclusion is: I loved LEGO growing up, and still do. And that’s likely to hold true with Magic.

I feel like the biggest parallel for what’s happening with Magic is LEGO. In the 90’s LEGO was entirely original themes but in 1999 the company announced a partnership with Lucasfilm and it paid off big. LEGO is dominated by licenses today and is doing better than ever. 🧵

@mtgvixen I feel exactly the same as your husband. At the beginning I thought it was a genuinely bad decision to ditch their old supporters, but business wise there is apparently just more money in this new kind of MTG. And money is unfortunately what it's all about. It is what it is. 😔

I know WotC doesn’t care, but my husband lived for Magic. He was so up to date on everything, played every format, constantly went to events - local and traveled. He played two pro tours. He doesn’t even talk about it anymore as of about 2 months ago. He said there’s no point.

I know the entrance of UB is a foregone discussion but the lovely Lorwyn spoilers made me realize I still care that MTG at large has become sort of shitshow.

@Hawaj_magic_guy Ah okay, I misunderstood you haha. I get that sense of nostalgia for sure but it is complicated. Sometimes I keep cards in due nostalgia reasons, but when they become consistently last picks... That ain't the case for twin though.

@CubeArjan I mean, keep it in, it's the last bastion of Twin ;) In my cube I go rather for nostalgia and good vibes than chase powercreep.

I am in doubt to take the splinter Twin combo out of my cube. It is getting harder and harder to justify cards like Exarch and Twin. On the other hand it does provide an easy accessible combo that almost everyone knows. Keep it on or not? #MTGcube

@Hawaj_magic_guy Isn't it the only place by now? 😬But honestly I know some people still like it. Probably more people don't have a strong opinion about it. Still in doubt to replace the package for cards that are better in general although I like the Kiki and Conscripts.
