As Muslims in New York City and around the world mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Muharram calls us to reflect on the values of justice, compassion, and moral courage that guide us in our lives and our communities. As we welcome this new year, may it renew our commitment to one another and to the work of building a city where every New Yorker can live with dignity and opportunity.

Very emotional moment from the interview with Zelenskyy. You should watch this. JOURNALIST: Do you miss being an actor? ZELENSKYY:?I miss being a good father. JOURNALIST: When your children were little, what did you tell them the most? What was the thing that you told them the most when they were small? ZELENSKYY: I love you. JOURNALIST: And what do you tell them now that they're older? ZELENSKYY: Oh, I miss you. JOURNALIST: When was the last time you cried? ZELENSKYY: I will try to do it after our interview. No, I mean this, between us. I'm a normal man and then there are a lot of different moments, between us, almost each day, a lot of losses on the battlefield and civilians, and there are absolutely crazy attacks on our people. And I'm just, it's… I mean, It's very difficult really, when I give orders (medals). I said about it. It's always difficult for me when I give orders (medals) to the mothers and fathers, who lost their children. In such moments, really, I often cry. JOURNALIST: Are you a hero? ZELENSKYY: No. JOURNALIST: So who is your hero? ZELENSKYY:?My hero? My children, my army, our army, and Ukrainian people. So I'm a part… I'm also a Ukrainian, so I'm a part of our nation. But now our nation, I think, that our nation is absolutely heroic.

⚡️Almost 70% of Ukrainians expect Zelensky to be replaced after war, poll shows. This marks a notable rise from 23% in 2023, as Zelensky's presidency enters its seventh year, reflecting a broader public demand for change across other branches of government as well. kyivindependent.com/almost-70-of-u…

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський
The G7 Summit in France delivered important results for Ukraine. Most importantly, we agreed on additional strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense. There will be new steps to put pressure on Russia over its war – pressure for the sake of peace. Our partners will ensure support for our defense and energy resilience. It is important that we have a shared understanding of the main challenges and concrete steps to respond to them. Our global unity is truly reducing Russia’s ability to continue this insane and criminal aggression against Ukraine. I thank everyone who is helping us!

There has been distressing news about the war in #Ukraine, which keeps expanding. There are many innocent victims, rescue workers killed, and churches and cultural heritage sites devastated by flames. I am close to all those who mourn their loved ones, to the wounded, and to those who continue to serve life with courage amid violence. Let us #PrayTogether that this war may end. Let us ask the Lord to open paths of dialogue, extinguish hatred, and make a just and lasting #Peace possible.

🟥 The warm welcome Volodymyr Zelenskyy received at the table today, from G7 leaders, especially the new leader of the Free World, Mark Carney - while Trump sat there awkward and petulant ... was WONDERFUL. 🙂

I’m old enough to remember when the Trump crowd clutched their pearls because Zelenskyy might not wear the “proper” suit and tie to the White House — because, they said, “the people’s house” demanded decorum and respect. Tonight, those same folks are happily cheering on grown men in their underwear turning the White House grounds into a literal cage-fighting venue, with Trump ringside on the South Lawn for “UFC Freedom 250.” They lost their minds over a wartime president in a field jacket, but they’re fine with fighters barefoot on the lawn, treating the White House like a locker room, sparring with their coaches steps from the same building they once called “sacred.” They demanded “respect for the office” when it was about optics and suits, and now they’re using that same office as the backdrop for corporate-branded cage matches to celebrate Trump’s 80th birthday and a pay-per-view event. And let’s be clear: this isn’t just a random stunt — this production was built out with a full UFC octagon, stands, and pageantry, timed to the nation’s 250th anniversary and arranged with enormous security and military presence, including thousands of active-duty troops invited as the audience. The same people who lecture everyone else about “respecting the troops” are now using them as a backdrop for Trump’s personal spectacle while demanding they meet body-size requirements just to attend. They don’t care about “decorum.” They care about power, control, and the ability to decide whose bodies and clothing are “respectful” and whose aren’t — a Ukrainian president’s fleece is an outrage, but Trump’s privately branded cage fights on public property are “patriotic.” That’s not patriotism. It’s authoritarian cosplay wrapped in a flag and sold on streaming. If you were furious when they shamed Zelenskyy for not being “formal” enough while his country was under attack, you should be furious now that they’ve turned the White House into a pay-per-view fight night and called it “freedom.”

Every day, we happily and freely export the texture of our lives to the cloud via our chief stenographer, the smartphone. You’re not just writing emails and texting close friends. You’re writing to everyone: loose federations of group chats; your neighbors on WhatsApp and Facebook; acquaintances in Instagram DMs; prospects on dating apps; co-workers on Slack. You’re typing into Search, Notes, Venmo. Realizing your trove exists is terrifying. So is learning that it’s never been more vulnerable. Cybercrime is rising at harrowing rates. It can also become exposed to the public through explicitly legal means. You don’t need to be the target of litigation yourself to find your private conversations suddenly available to a wider audience: see the 2025 lawsuit filed by Elon Musk against Sam Altman and OpenAI, which exposed more than a decade of group chats and emails between some of the world’s richest men, squabbling over their personal financial stakes in the fate of humankind. It could be your coworker, your friend, your family member — why else would texts from Matt Damon’s wife, non-famous person Luciana Damon, become a matter of public record? She can thank Blake Lively for suing Justin Baldoni and dragging her iMessage history into discovery. Most of us, however, no matter how seemingly unimportant, conduct ourselves differently in public than we do in the digital realm, our version of behind closed doors. The problem now is that this private self has been recorded in your trove. Its very existence, and the sheer volume of its contents, means it could be useful, interesting, compromising, or lucrative to someone, somewhere, given the right set of circumstances. For our Cover Story, Bridget Read reports on how hacks, lawsuits, and data breaches are increasingly exposing our digital records — threatening to spill everything into the public: nymag.visitlink.me/CGzkMh
