@ChiefMeesh @AndyKHLiu @warriorsworld No. I specifically invited discussion (“is this correct?”), and I’m not presenting my grok output as a neutral analysis, I am using it to specifically call out why I think it’s biased. By contrast, Andy presents his heavily biased claude response as objective and hindsight free.

Why not have robots play baseball for us? They would probably be way better at pitching and hitting the ball. Maybe we could implement a rule where twice a game, a robot gets to throw a pitch or take a swing. Or, maybe even one where we take the pitches thrown in the last at bat and have a simulated robot face them instead and give the next hitter a randomized outcome based on probabilities that the robot would’ve hit the pitch or struck out or so on and so forth. That would add a layer of strategy (deciding which AB to use the robot), and fan engagement (watching the simulated AB on the big screen, cheering when the worst player on your favorite team hits a simulated triple)

I don't know, man. Maybe I'm too old fashioned, but I don't love the trend of machines and constant replay review taking the place of umpires and refs. To me, there's just a soullessness to machines enforcing the rules. I don't mind the umpire mistakes (especially on balls and strikes) - I'd just rather have humans in charge. Also, Gov, if you could nudge Gunnar Henderson to start hitting ASAP - he's a staple on my fantasy team.

I have to disagree with you on this one, Chris. Go O's!

I’m saying the pendulum’s on your side right at this moment. Republicans have the house, senate, and presidency. If you aren’t getting what you want out of that then it’s OK to admit you got tricked, but there’s no point coping as if classical republicanism or whatever is gonna be reclaiming the culture anytime remotely soon. x.com/tayis7gay/stat…

You’re both wrong in your own special ways. She was 15, and smudging that/rounding up to 17 makes OP feel like a pedo defender. However, the facts of the situation make it abundantly clear that Giddey isn’t a pedophile, and it doesn’t matter whether or not he “gives a fuck about any of them”

This isn’t the wrong messenger Giddey is a helpless victim who fell for someone at an 18+ club then got framed as a pedo when the real predator, a 17 year old in a state where the age of consent is 17, posted all these photos of him online to show off to her friends
NBACentral@TheDunkCentral

Josh Giddey says Jaden Ivey needs help. ‘‘Obviously, the whole thing is kind of unfortunate in a way. I hope he gets the help he needs, whatever he’s going through or not going through. I do really hope he gets help. It’s not going to be with the Bulls anymore, but wherever it is, I hope he gets it.’’ (Via @Suntimes )

Totally agree, unfortunately I don’t see many sharing our opinion on this. I see guys who are truly at the top level of an incredibly difficult job, who not only get constantly clowned on social media with absolutely nobody defending them, but now have to be subjected to being embarrassed multiple times per game in front of crowds of 40 thousand people who hate them. It’s totally dystopian

@CurCarry @Brendanc2000 @i_zzzzzz This is all the conversation comes down to. I’m just saying that this half measure before completely replacing them with a machine where we are judging them against perfection in real-time is just an embarrassment ritual.

I can absolutely see why the Betts trade would upset you and other fans so much, and why the Devers trade brings back those bad memories whether or not it was more logical and defensible. I simply disagree with the video’s thesis. To me, an entirely outside observing rangers fan, the Red Sox have one of the best front offices in baseball - consistently upgrading over the past few years (Crochet trade+extension, Gray trade, Suarez signing/Bregman rental, Chapman signing and other great marginal moves in my eyes like Durbin, Slaten, Contreras, IKF, Oviedo, incredible Rafaela/anthony extensions that will leave them in a position to seriously compete every single year until the end of crochet’s deal at least) I feel like ignoring all these great moves is only done to shoehorn in their “owners bad and don’t care about winning” thesis - one you can easily make for other teams that are not paying the highest payroll in franchise history and in prime position to compete for their division - and comes from a deep lack of understanding of how MLB roster building works. It’s a punchy, populist, easy to agree with take that owners are scamming fans by being cheap instead of winning but I just don’t see how it applies in this case.

Betts was in no way defensible. I get not giving long term contracts of 10+ years and god knows the Red Sox are good examples of being terrible at picking the right player for that but they instead let the franchise go and then react to the uproar by over spending on a different player. i agree it’s not really accurate to portray them as penny pinchers but they try and be very selective and all too often they choose wrong. With that said it’s a new season and I am excited. But I’ll never forgive them for Betts, Orsillo, Tito and Cora (the first time). Just a cowardly front office.

NEW: It's now more lucrative to have a losing sports team than a championship team. We examined the Boston Red Sox to see how private equity and cost cutting invaded sports. In this era, teams want to sell good players for profit more than they want to have a good season.

Lmao or they will just cope about it Reminds me of this guy - x.com/cheapguy13/sta… “Everyone can spend like the dodgers and Mets but it’s the padres fault they have to cut down on spending because they signed the wrong free agents” It’s just mass psychosis driven from real grievances about the 1% but a total lack of nuanced understanding of how running a baseball team actually works, imo
jobu@cheapguy13

@CurCarry @alexgiles @TalkinBaseball_ Padres are in their situation because they gave over 400m to X, Darvish, Musgrove, and Crone. Non worth what they got. Tatis and Merrill were smart deals for both players and org. Players get paid and will still hit FA in their prime to cash in.

Unfortunately most of the people in this thread are very casual baseball fans who don’t really understand the playoffs are a crapshoot and winning enough regular season games to get in is what matters I just don’t understand these people’s expectations. Would signing one more big free agent really make them happy? I still feel like they would be complaining x.com/wooclan99/stat…

@CurCarry @dimauro_vinnie @MorePerfectUS Also to the extent that it's true that they want a "good enough" roster it's overwhelmingly because the players enthusiastically agreed to multiple rounds of playoff expansion which SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the value of improving a roster once you get to 90 wins.

No, I’m not missing that takeaway, I’m disagreeing with it. The Red Sox are contenders right now with the highest payroll in franchise history. I disagree with the assertion a team has to spend like the dodgers or mets to care about winning. They have a sustainable long term model and their current roster construction proves that.

@CurCarry @MorePerfectUS I think you’re missing taking the main takeaway. Which is all they care about is putting just a “good enough” product on the field to suck the most money out of fans.

@PiresVino @RAFAN432 @MorePerfectUS You are the one griping and bitching and complaining about how they are run. He is the one defending how his favorite team is managed. Why would he be “angry” if he believes they are running the team well? Think, idiot
