Dan Orlovsky is one of the best sport’s analyst in the world… period. No one studies the game more. This is especially true when it comes to QB play. Every time we work together I think, “he one of them ones too!”. The reaction to his Mendoza take is laughable. Fernando Mendoza is the #1 overall pick, but the gap isn’t as wide as some believe. Also, there’s no comparison between Mendoza & former number 1 picks like Burrow, Lawrence etc… there’s validity to @danorlovsky7’s assessment. Workshopping a new take that corners are basically the running backs of defense. In a vacuum, sure it's awesome to have an elite guy. But so much of their success is so dependent on what the other 10 guys are doing that I see them more as finishing pieces than the foundation.

This is what trying to be different looks like when it comes to draft evaluations. Sometimes the best players are simply the best players and it’s plain as day. The way I see it, Fernando Mendoza is the best player in class. Ty Simpson is a day 2 talent.
