@BrettDolter @SaskPower SkPwr provided me witih 2019 GHG intensity. Would love more frequent updates (monthly?) to reflect new projects coming on line or, better yet, billing data showing household carbon emissions with real time grid emissions.

@CurtisPOlson You can compare vehicle emissions using the MIT carbon counter: carboncounter.com. Just click on customize and set the greenhouse gas intensity to reflect the SK grid. Last number I saw published in SK was 660 tonne CO2e/GWh but @SaskPower has dialled back coal since then

Question: does driving an electric vehicle in SK reduce carbon emissions vs a gas combusion vehicle?

Why am I doing this analysis? Trying to understand how much carbon tax we avoid by installing Solar PV on the roof of the net zero home we’re designing. Currently, planning for 10 kW rooftop system but more on that in another thread...

Assumptions: I assume any movement by Sk Gov to eliminate the discounted carbon tax rate (currently ⅓) will be offset by decarbonizing SK grid power.

Our net zero home (2021 project) will have rooftop solar to meet our annual energy needs. It’s hard to know what the carbon-constrained future looks like, but the $ make sense now to invest in solar & improve if we start paying full fare on our elect bills. #skcarbontax

Fed’s have good energy profiles here for the provinces. In SK, we have 2nd highest electrical consumption and 1st highest emissions, both on a per capita basis. cer-rec.gc.ca/en/data-analys…

Our home’s 2020 CO2e emissions from ELECTRICITY was 3.96 tons. 21% of our total. At $30/ton we should have paid ~$119 but actual carbon tax paid was $33.57.
