🇯🇵 Isuzu Piazza Turbo
1 of 1,662 UK models
The Isuzu Piazza Turbo (marketed as the Isuzu Impulse in North America and the Holden Piazza in Australia) was a sporty 3-door liftback coupé produced by Isuzu between 1981 and 1993. Designed by the famed Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, it was highly regarded for its striking "dream car" styling while utilizing Isuzu's reliable engineering.
The UK-market version, which was offered exclusively in Turbo trim, featured the following technical characteristics:
Engine: 2.0-litre (1994cc) 4ZC1-T turbocharged inline-four cylinder.
Power Output: Approximately 147–150 bhp (110 kW).
Torque: 167 lb-ft (225–227 Nm) at 3,000 rpm.
Transmission: 5-speed manual.
Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive with a limited-slip differential.
Performance: 0–60 mph in roughly 8.3–8.5 seconds, with a top speed of approximately 130 mph.
Notable Features
Innovative Interior: The car featured a unique dashboard design where the instrument cluster moved with the steering wheel adjustment. Control satellites for lights and wipers were located immediately behind the steering wheel.
Handling Evolution: Early models (often called "pre-Lotus" cars) were criticized for poor handling, particularly due to their antiquated live-axle rear suspension. Later versions were improved with "Lotus-tuned" suspension, which included redesigned sway bars and stiffer dampers to provide better predictability.
Design & Equipment: It was known for its low drag coefficient (0.33) and generous standard equipment for the time, which included cruise control, air conditioning, and power steering.
This car was spotted in the UK at a car boot sale.

@nosateki @RuFFiaN_Cars @AutomotiveTales @TisI_LeClerc Yeah they didn't have the best street cred.😂😂😂
English

@CustomCvd @RuFFiaN_Cars @AutomotiveTales @TisI_LeClerc Agreed. The Mk3 was like a poor man's (or woman's) Audi 80 cabrio, neat but slightly sedate, mainly bought by people over 50 in seaside towns.
English

@nosateki @RuFFiaN_Cars @AutomotiveTales @TisI_LeClerc Yeah agreed, though if I had to have an Astra ragtop I'd take a mk4. That was a handsome thing in my opinion.🤔
English

@CustomCvd @RuFFiaN_Cars @AutomotiveTales @TisI_LeClerc Anonymous yes, and not an exciting drive, but a cut above the Escort in quality, and nicely detailed inside and out. The cabriolet was quite unusual having an extended saloon boot rather than being based on the hatchback - though the Peugeot 306 did that best.
English

@nosateki @RuFFiaN_Cars @AutomotiveTales @TisI_LeClerc I was never a fan of the Mk3 Astra tbf. It just always seemed so anonymous & that's saying something against a 90s Escort.🤔
English

@CustomCvd @RuFFiaN_Cars @AutomotiveTales @TisI_LeClerc Then, I would have chosen the Renault for its sporty looks, with that T-Bird style tonneau thing, but the Ashtray is more practical, better made, nicer interior, quite well balanced styling and a useful big boot. Might pick that now, as i don't feel so sporty these days.
