US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has criticised New Zealand’s defence spending - currently 2% of GDP - as “freeloading” on the US. I think this criticism is mostly fair. The US does basically underwrite much of the international security on which we depend, and we ultimately rely on them to defend us if under serious threat. They have every right to demand we pull our weight. If NZ has any rebuttal it is to point to the large number of pointless and counterproductive military escapades the US has involved itself in (Iran, Iraq, etc), which are not in NZ’s interests, which we are right to stay out of, and which the US should stay out of too.

Once upon a time there was a television series called The Equalizer starring Edward Woodward as Robert McCall (that was in the 1980's) Jump to 2014 and a movie is made The Equalizer with Denzel Washington in the title role... (don't get me wrong, Denzil is great in those movies (3 all up)... then in 2021 the a re-imagined series with Queen Latifah as ... wait for it... Roberta McCall... I can think of many more movies with white original actor/characters are remade with black actor/characters... Take, for example, The Nutty Professor; Jerry Lewis/Eddie Murphy, Dr Dolittle; Rex Harrison/Eddie Murphy... and lots more... All great movies and I can understand the need to make remakes for a more recent audiences, however what gets lost is that no-one remembers the originals, and that is sad because they are great movies too. But for crying out loud do the characters have to change race or sexuality? I think sometimes it is too easy for writers to hang on the coattails of successful authors than to come up with their own ideas/characters.

Dunno I find making white existing characters black is such an insult to black communities across the world. Why not create black characters instead of looking so desperate by this cheap trick? Black people should have more pride and dignity than this really. No shortage of excellent creative people or characters amongst the🙄 This is really a bad look.
