The unfolding oil crisis resulting from the Iran War may well lead to a global recession and make everyone worse off. But some countries, particularly those without much of a domestic oil industry, will be hurt more than others. The crisis should be a reminder to New Zealand about the importance of maintaining its domestic oil industry and for having a degree of self-sufficiency across a range of energy sources.

Sticking to National’s careful economic plan is how we can best insulate New Zealand and New Zealanders against this global shock and protect New Zealand’s future.
