I wouldn't say Nintendo's consistent, Nintendo fans just conveniently ignore the inconsistencies in order to PRETEND Nintendo is consistent.
Plenty of unusual/mid/bad/disappointing games come out, people just move on instead of bringing up the missteps DAILY 10+ years later.

Sonic is a corporate mascot. "Artistic integrity" is not... Possible. There are other types of integrity which do matter - Nintendo are famous for their consistency. Sonic as a brand has more consistency today than ever and yet the art feels like it's taken a backseat.
