Been revisiting Twilight Princess for the first time in years and my lord does it take FOREVER to get to the point 😭😭😭 No idea what the consensus is on this game but it’s definitely my least favourite 3D Zelda off the top of my head. Very pretty tho.

Bungie says it will support Marathon for many years with steady updates and fixes. The game reportedly has sold about 1.2 million copies so far. Many fans are worried it may not last.

Xbox also takes 30% just like steam. I suppose the deluxe edition is a good argument, but that extra 10million buffer I put in there would easily cover that. You can estimate based of other AAA titles with a similar dev cycle. Regardless of all that, if you took away the Xbox and Steam cuts AND every single copy sold was the deluxe edition, they're only at $72mil in revenue. You can't get more generous than that. That's totally unrealistic. Again, I don't care how this game or bungie performs, it's just the reality of the situation. This game is in trouble.

I took the family to see Project Hail Mary last weekend. For 4 of us, it was like $90 all in. That's for like 2 hours of entertainment.... I've got close to 200 hours now out of Marathon and I haven't even got to vault 7 yet, or VIPd every faction, or even come remotely close to every upgrade. That's alot for my $60. Even if it dies after season 1, I'll have gotten more out of this game than most others titles that have lasted a decade. It's a ton of fun and it'll move the genre forward even in the unlikely event it gets the plug pulled.

Okay. So do YOU think that 1.2 million copies sold at around $30 can support a 300 person dev team with a 5+ year dev cycle +marketing? Again, BUNGIE is 850 employees. The marathon dev team is 300. Obviously there will be future monetization thru microtransactions, but even going that route....they're only hitting 40-44k concurrent players on steam charts (where the vast majority of the players are). How much do you think the dev and marketing costs are? Because by my count, they've only made 40-50 million in revenue (not counting revenue from microtransactions). And the 50mil end is GENEROUS.

Past tense because I got tired of the travel and 70 hour work weeks. I could walk in and get a job this afternoon at any of the large firms if I wanted to. Everyone, even you, know engineer estimates are a fucking joke in the industry, so quit trying to make it sound like you have any idea how to estimate real costs You can't even comprehend complex hourly rates, ramp up, ramp down, or shared costs. You have no idea what the staff rates are, what the divisions in class are, how much was contracted out, how much is deferred, and what was shared on other projects. You also have no idea what their monetization plan is, what their revenue goals are, or what time frame they are comfortable with. You done typical "engineer math" that is barely above the complexity of the rest of hobbiests on this site. There is a reason owners get 300 mil engineer estimates, but the competive bids never come any where close. Ass hats like you think your actually smart cause you can do engineer calcs on a computer now. Then when you get called into a meeting to argue with guys like me you end up looking like fools. Every. Single. Time.

Dude. You don't know wtf I know. And I noticed you used past tense there. With your math, I can see why that is. Also, dipshit, to your original claim....300 is the MARATHON team. BUNGIE has 850 employees....so it's even WORSE if you factor in that the work that the 300 employees did SHOULD be covering at least SOME of the overhead of the rest of the company. They're not even breaking even at this point.

Because I do know how to estimate costs. I spent a decade doing it in one of the most difficult industries to do it in, heavy civil construction. My job was often to correct engineering firms dog shit estimates that ALWAYS failed to take into account anything more complex than (hrs x $). Owning an engineering firm means you know how to do simplistic estimation with no complexity, and it shows.
