@LauraAnnSTL @GlennonDoyle It’s so hard. Then the first month is ridiculously hard when they tell you they made a mistake and want to come home. But just remember how they cried about going to kindergarten. It’s not that different. They just need to feel loved and accepted, and then they’ll be ok. ❤️

Moved my kid into college today. So, we’re just supposed to leave them? After 18 years? We just… leave? I’m taking the advice of @GlennonDoyle and feeling all the feelings. I very much hate the feelings. Can we be real for a minute? This is a really fucked up plan. I miss him.❤️🩹

@clhubes Sounds accurate. Well done! (Totally serious here)

Those who have college kids, now is a good time to have the discussion:
* if you live in a swing state, they should request an absentee ballot before heading to college
* if they go to school in a swing state, they should register on campus once they get there
* if both, take your pick!
We need a HUGE turnout from Gen Z!

Frank's aorta was on the verge of rupture and at age 73, he wasn't a candidate for traditional surgery.
That didn't stop surgeon Dr. Neal Cayne, who repaired the aorta with a custom stent graft in a minimally invasive procedure, saving Frank.

As the parent of former G&T students, this is the right call but I'm glad it didn't happen in my day because it was the only way I was able to get my kids into a better elementary than our zone school. How do we fix that?

BREAKING: NYC to eliminate gifted + talented classes over the next 5 yrs, major change and likely BdB's last big decision as mayor. Kids now enrolled in gifted programs will stay in them, but there will be no more separate gifted classes for incoming kids nytimes.com/2021/10/08/nyr…

@elizashapiro What about parental concerns about public transportation? It is a major reason many of my kids' classmates stayed remote. At the MS and HS level, kids often need to take the city bus or subway. There's fear of Covid but also fear of crime. What is the city doing about that?

NEW: De Blasio has promised full-time, normal schooling this September for all ~1 million NYC students. But how does the city actually get there? Let's get into it.

SHSAT results are here! If you took the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test, you will get your results by email and/or mail this week. Learn more at schools.nyc.gov/SHS. All other high school offers will be available in mid-May.

English

@elizashapiro Wait are results available? When are they telling students?
English

@elizashapiro I agreed. I also predict a fault line in high school between parents who want their vaccinated kids in full-time for their Junior and senior years and parents who refuse vaccination, this forcing the continuation of a remote model.

I am seeing this in my reporting every day around school reopening. I don't think districts understand just how frightened some parents are by the prospect of sending their kids back this *fall*
