People are saying that Nigel Farage has asked Elon Musk to ban people from X for sharing this clip of him attacking his crony Robert Jenrick. Surely free speech champion Nigel Farage isn't that petty? But just in case, THIS is the video that you mustn't download or share

#GMB presenter declares: "The welfare bill is so huge" Except as Kevin Maguire pointed out on the same program earlier this month, it's about 10.6% of GDP & as a proportion that's lower than most other European countries.

Kwasi Kwarteng says the welfare bill is unsustainable. Kevin Maguire points out the welfare bill is about 10.6% of GDP, as a proportion that's lower than most other European countries, and the majority of it goes on pensions #GMB

Ko Tinmaung, a Toronto-based Rohingya activist, has been released after more than 96 hours in Israeli detention following Israel’s hijacking of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the abduction of its civilian participants. His testimony is horrifying. He says he was beaten in a dark room by more than five people, kicked, punched, tasered in multiple places, and handcuffed so tightly that the restraints cut into his wrists and restricted blood flow. He says he still needs treatment for concussion-like injuries. He also says he witnessed other detainees with broken ribs, head wounds, blood from their ears, eye injuries, broken noses and broken teeth. Most gravely, he alleges sexual assaults, including people being tasered on their genitals. Tinmaung’s testimony also exposes the racial dimension of Israeli violence. He says he was mocked as “Ahmed”, assaulted further, laughed at because of his skin colour, and treated as if his passport had no value because he was brown. This was a civilian-led humanitarian mission carrying food, aid and basic supplies to Gaza. So where is Canada? Where are the human rights organisations? Where are the global leadership councils, the moral authorities, the professional defenders of accountability? Silence now is not neutrality. It is complicity. (Video courtesy Forsea.co)

Albertan here. One who has been re-elected 11 times to represent tens of thousands of working Albertans. Politicians like Rempel do NOT speak for all Albertans. And this constant narrative of victimhood is tiresome. It’s a political tactic, nothing more.

“My name is Amos Goldberg. I am an Israeli Professor of Holocaust Studies. For nearly 30 years I have researched and taught the Holocaust, genocide and state violence. And I want to tell whoever is willing to listen that what’s happening now in Gaza is a genocide. A year ago when October 7th happened, like all Israelis I was in shock. It was a war crime and a crime against humanity. 1200 people - more than 800 of them civilians - were killed in one day. Children and the elderly were among those taken hostage. Communities were destroyed. It was outrageous, traumatizing, personal. Like most Israelis, I know people who were killed, who lost loved ones or whose loved ones were taken hostage. But immediately afterwards came Israel’s response and within weeks thousands of civilians were killed in Gaza. It took me some time to digest what was unfolding before my eyes. It was agonizing to confront that reality. I was reluctant to call it a genocide. But if you read Raphael Lemkin – the Jewish-Polish legal scholar who coined the term ‘genocide’ and was the major driving force behind the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention – what is happening in Gaza now is exactly what he had in mind when he spoke about genocide. It does not need to look like the Holocaust to be a genocide. Each genocide looks different and not all involve killing of millions or the entire group. The United Nations Genocide Convention explicitly asserts that genocide is the act of deliberately destroying a group in whole or in part. Those are the words. But there does need to be a clear intent. And indeed, there are clear indications of intent to destroy Gaza: Israel’s leaders - including the prime minister and the minister of defence - and many high-ranking military officers, media personalities, rabbis, as well as ordinary soldiers were very open about what they wanted to achieve. There were countless documented incitements to turn the whole of Gaza into rubble and claims that there are no innocent people living there. A radical atmosphere of dehumanization of the Palestinians prevails in Israeli society to an extent that I can’t remember in my 58 years of living here. Now that vision has been enacted. Tens of thousands of innocent children, women and men have been killed. Over a hundred thousand were wounded. There is a near total destruction of infrastructure, intentional starvation and blocking of humanitarian aid. There are mass graves and reliable testimony of summary executions. Children that were shot by snipers. All the universities and almost all hospitals are gone. Almost all the population is displaced. There have been numerous bombings of civilians in so-called ‘safe zones’. Gaza does not exist anymore. It is completely destroyed. Thus, the outcome fits perfectly with the stated intentions of Israel’s leadership. Lemkin - that scholar who coined the term ‘genocide’ - described two phases of a genocide. The first is the destruction of the annihilated group and the second is what he called ‘imposition of the national pattern’ of the perpetrator. We are now witnessing the second phase as Israel prepares ethnically cleansed areas for Israeli settlements. And therefore, I have come to the conclusion that this is exactly what a genocide looks like. We don’t teach about genocides in order to realize it retrospectively. We teach about it in order to prevent it and to stop it. But like in every other case of genocide in history right now we have mass denial. Both here in Israel and around the world. But reality cannot be denied. So yes, it is a genocide. And once you come to this conclusion you cannot remain silent.” - Statement to Led By Donkeys, December 2024 - Photo: Parliament Square, London, 8.40am, 4th December 2024

“For the first time since the Brexit referendum of June 2016, the idea of asking to return to the fold is on Britain’s political horizon. Granted, for now the idea of Bre-entry is confined to Labour politicians, floating the notion to charm party members ahead of a possible challenge to Sir Keir Starmer; several hope to become PM in his stead. Granted, too, that the euro-bashers of Mr Farage’s Reform ukparty are far ahead in the polls. But rejoining the eu seems to resonate with many British voters, a majority of whom think leaving was a mistake. The notion is unlikely to go away soon. As more and more Westminster politicians declare they favour applying for re-entry, the eu may one day need to say what it thinks of the idea of Britain boomeranging back into the union it left in a huff.” archive.ph/2026.05.22-100…

Brexit was a self-inflicted disaster for Britain; Trump was a self-inflicted disaster for the United States and the world; Albertan independence would be a self-inflicted disaster for Alberta, and for Canada.
Courtney Theriault@cspotweet

"It is often advanced that vote for this and you will strengthen our hand in future negotiations, and that's a very dangerous bluff." Mark Carney likens Alberta's sovereignty referendum to Brexit, saying voters run the risk of being left with a bad hand they didn't mean to vote for.

On 23 June 2026, Britain will mark ten years since the referendum that changed everything. A decade since 17.4 million people voted Leave on the basis of promises that were, in almost every measurable particular, false. A decade since the country began the long, slow, expensive process of discovering what the sunlit uplands actually looked like. They look like this: the economy is between 6% and 8% smaller than it would have been had we stayed. Business investment has been between 12% and 18% lower than comparable countries. Bloomberg Economics estimates the annual cost to the British economy at between £100 billion and £200 billion. A former chief economist at Goldman Sachs – a Conservative peer and former Treasury minister – described it as “a colossal economic shock” causing more permanent damage than the Iran war energy crisis. And 63% of the British public would vote to rejoin the EU if given the chance today. This is the Brexit balance sheet. And nobody who sold it to us has faced any consequences for it whatsoever.

I was the Labour councillor for Blakelaw and Cowgate and lost the recent election to Reform UK by just 22 votes. I accepted the result. That is democracy. What I did not expect was what came afterwards. Since the election, my family and I have experienced abuse, hostility, personal attacks and even vandalism. Most recently, a political social media post contained false claims about my involvement in the community and local organisations. The claim was later removed, but not before it had already been seen and shared. Blakelaw and Cowgate is not just a ward to me. It is my home. My family lives here. My children have grown up here. We have spent years supporting local residents, community groups and grassroots football because we care deeply about this community. What hurts most is the impact on my family. My children have asked why things have changed so much since the election. As a parent, it is heartbreaking to see them worried and upset because of things being said about their mother. When false information is published, it does not just affect the person targeted. It affects their husband, their children and the people who love them. It makes you wonder how much more hostility your family will have to face simply for trying to serve your community. I am proud of everything my family and I have done for Blakelaw and Cowgate. Despite everything, this is still our home, and I will continue supporting the community I care so deeply about.
