@KyleJGlen Don’t waste time on him, he is wrong about nearly everything and constantly pushes a Russian propaganda angle despite being in New Zealand. (Why ? Who knows)

My toddler can swap pads on a disc brake. Real men have that weird tool with the hook for removing those little springs on drum brakes. And they know how to punch out the oval to access the star wheel. A little-known fact is that you can only do one side of a drum brake setup at a time, because no one is left who remembers how they go together from scratch.
Tim@TimurNegru

Men, hands up if you can change your own brake pads.

@lauriewired All my failed SD cards have gone into a pseudo read only mode - still accepting writes from the OS without reporting write failures but silently discarding the writes so they become silently immutable. This is insidious especially for something like a dash cam.

The way SD cards fail is…gross. Anyone that does heavy photography or video work knows they’ll gradually get slow; often without outright failing. I blame the SD association. The storage controller isn't required to report *any* health information to the host!

@SnazzyLabs Try Aliexpress for treadmill PCBs, these boards are made in China and sold under a dozen brands so you might need to image match. When the motor controller board on our "Roger Black" treadmill died Aliexpress was the only source of board I could find. Still working 5 years later.

@Techjunkie_Aman You can already repair an Xbox One with a dead hard drive for years now… there is a powershell script that will format and partition a new drive that you can then install the OS on. I fitted an SSD in my Xbox One S when the original spinning drive failed.

The “unhackable” Xbox One just got hacked. After 13 years. A researcher demonstrated the first full jailbreak for the original 2013 Xbox One at RE//verse 2026. The exploit targets the boot ROM itself. Which means: • hardware level exploit • completely unpatchable • Microsoft cannot fix it with updates The attack uses voltage glitching during boot to bypass a critical security check in the Platform Security Processor. Right now it's extremely impractical. Success rate is about 1 in a million attempts. Meaning a single console can take days of automated glitch attempts before it finally works. But if it triggers, you gain full early boot code execution. That allows things like: • dumping encryption keys • decrypting games and firmware • NAND backups • possible custom firmware • repairing consoles with dead drives • long term game preservation Important: This only affects the original 2013 Xbox One (the launch “fat” model). Xbox One S, One X and Xbox Series consoles are still secure. For the preservation community, this is one of the biggest console breakthroughs in years. Credit: tech/sportskeeda

@aakashgupta 1000 nits minimum in sunlight ? Sounds like bullshit. My iPhone screen is rated for 625 nits maximum and is perfectly readable in direct sunlight.

The average laptop screen ships at 400 to 500 nits of brightness. Direct sunlight requires 1,000 nits minimum to be readable. Most MacBook Airs top out around 480. So every person “working from the beach” is doing one of three things: squinting at a washed-out screen while cupping their hand over it like a visor, cranking brightness to max and watching the battery drain in 90 minutes, or posing for a photo with a screen that’s actually off. The photo in this tweet is perfect. Two guys in white button-downs at a beach table, hunched forward, clearly unable to see anything. One has sunglasses on, which makes the screen even darker. The other is eating a bagel and appears to have accepted his fate. The entire “laptop at the beach” aesthetic is a lighting trick. Every influencer photo is shot at golden hour or in shade. The second the sun is directly overhead, your $2,000 laptop becomes a $2,000 mirror. Apple, Dell, and Lenovo could fix this tomorrow with 1,500-nit panels. They don’t because the battery tradeoff would cut runtime in half, and “4 hours of battery life” doesn’t sell in a commercial. The remote work fantasy was always an indoor product sold with outdoor photography.

@eevblog Is 63A main supply standard or maximum in AUS ? Here in the UK houses are 60, 80 or 100A. Our 1920's bungalow is 100A which is nice considering the 7kW EV charger, electric shower etc... terraced houses tend to be less than 100A though and sometimes pairs share one feed.

Finally hit the 63A house limit and tripped the main breaker today during the 3 hour free window. First time ever. EV charging, pool heat pump on, hot water heat pump, and oven, dryer, plus maybe some other stuff.
