@ThrillaRilla369 There were a similar number of casualties but the Korean war was about 3 years versus about 8 for Vietnam. Then compare to WW2, where we had about ten times the dead in about 3 1/2 years and the population was about 110 million vs 340 today. All terrible by any measure.

@MarcusH_01 That process took a little over 70 years and much of the violence happened internally in a closed society. Well before the internet and news didn't get out easily in a tightly controlled society. Same reason why much of the Nazi and Japanese atrocities stayed hidden for years.

@DesireeAmerica4 You have need to factor in taxes, especially if you're still working or have any other income. That makes early withdrawal much less appealing for most. The real payback window is much shorter for most people.
