The key diff I see is many on one side see the _entire_ process as "busy work"

genuine question: why are the arts and gaming communities so fucking touchy about ai? i get that 99% of examples are slop but we’re reaching a point where ai-generated media is indistinguishable for 90% of the world that shouldn’t go un-acknowledged just because you want to hide behind a professional identity ai isn’t going away, it’s getting (a lot) better, so why not try and figure out how to work with it to your advantage? isn’t that what a bunch of hollywood is realising now? doomer: “NO THIS IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO PIXAR GRADE” 8 year old (target audience): “haha that’s awesome” what am i missing?

Funny you bring up housing. Right now, an average person can’t build a house. It’s illegal. you have to use “the system”. To compare this to art and AI, average people would be able to produce their own housing quickly. Might not stand the rest of time, but it’ll be functional. A tent.

"prompt engineers" are such a joke that even the AI is programmed to throw away their prompt learn how to make art yourself and you won't have problems like this.

@Artedeingenio A pencil takes no cognitive load off the user. AI takes the majority of the cognitive load off the user. This isn't a difficult concept. A pencil makes no decisions for you, an AI makes hundreds of decisions for you.

My favorite complaint from AI haters is: "you didn’t do anything, the AI did it." Name a single art form where you can create something without a tool. Following that logic, the pencil makes the drawing, the brush makes the painting, the chisel makes the sculpture, and the camera takes the photo. So the only art that deserves to be called art would be the one that exists only in the mind and is never materialized. The problem is, if it’s never expressed, you can’t even know if it truly exists. Schrödinger’s art.

@BionicDance @TheMG3D How I know I'm seeing the artist through anything differs depending on the piece. In some works, I can hear the questions the creator asks through the flow of the story. In others, it's feeling how delicately they put together the world. (2/3)
