If I were running the Washington Post, here’s what I’d do: 1. Loosen the paywall → reg wall after a few free reads; aim to be the most premium free alternative to NYT 2. Fewer newsletters, but invest more in the main ones; center them on star reporters with real voice 3. Launch WaPo Premium: fewer ads, comment privileges, live events, consumer-level perks 4. Buy Punchbowl → fold it into a WaPo Pro subscription 5. Do Spotify-style rev-share deals with major local newspaper chains 6. Curate + republish the best reporting from all 50 states; subscriber-only, revenue split by readership 7. Make WaPo Pro the national layer for actionable statehouse + policy intelligence 8. Cancel the Loudoun printing plant; sale/leaseback Springfield until redevelopment is ready, then end print edition 9. Exit the DC HQ lease → 1–2 floors in Rosslyn with views 10. Normalize flexible WFH
