Thinking of Rudy Chavez this Memorial Day. He served in the South Pacific in WWII, earning a Purple Heart after being shot down twice (once over New Guinea where he survived a week in the jungle). He died tragically years later in car accident when my mom was pregnant w/ me. RIP.

Spain’s governing Socialist Party suffered its worst defeat ever in the country’s largest region, while the conservative People’s Party also lost support. The People’s Party, or PP, won 53 seats in Andalusia’s 109-member legislature on Sunday, compared with 58 in 2022, with 96% of the votes counted. The Socialists took 28 seats, compared to 30 four years ago. The result means the PP would require support from the right-wing party to form a government. Vox finished third with 15 seats, one more than four years ago. Sunday’s election came four months after more than 40 people died in a train crash in Andalusia, which led to strong criticism of the central government. Sánchez’s government has also suffered from a series of criminal investigations involving two close aides, as well as his wife. His decision to regularize up to 1.3 million illegal migrants may also have played a role, as it was heavily criticized by opposition figures in Spain and elsewhere in Europe.

@aubreybloom @Jeff_Ermann They do count. Under the updated rules for the medical hardship denominator (Bylaw 14.2.5.2.5.1), the NCAA changed how they calculate the total season games to avoid punishing schools for playing in postseason tournaments.

@DCBarno @Jeff_Ermann The postseason games don’t count but I guess if it rounds up it doesn’t matter. I had never seen that it rounds up.

Things changed with Pharrel Payne expected back and more time to evaluate Edema's readiness. Maryland could've had him on board by now. But they still need a rim protecting big.

@aubreybloom @Jeff_Ermann Payne fits standard medical hardship rules. 1st-half injury, well-documented, sat out after, and the 30% limit: 33 games x 0.30 = 9.9 games. Under NCAA Bylaw 14.2.5.2.5.2 (Fraction in Percent rule), fractions round up. The limit is exactly 10. Payne met every criteria point.

The truth the world refuses to accept: Palestine never existed as a sovereign Arab state. The British Mandate of Palestine was a British territory taken from the defeated Ottoman Empire after 1917. Jews lived continuously in the Holy Land for centuries — long before modern Zionism. They were the majority in Jerusalem under Ottoman rule. Jews legally bought desert land (including the area that became Tel Aviv) and turned it into thriving cities and kibbutzim. Not a single Arab was displaced by these purchases. Maryland was waiting on two big announcements today, Obinna Jr and Terps Lax’s bid. Both went against us. Both leaked early. The kid didn’t realize his IG follows could be sorted to most recent. The NCAA, on the other hand, leaked the bracket before ESPNU’s Selection Show. Whoops

Obinna Ekezie played when I was a student. One of my all time favorite Terps. His fluke injury at the end of practice late in the magical ‘99 season still haunts me. No matter how this turns out, have to respect the fight MD is putting up for his son. What a story it would be.

Good luck to Darius Adams at NC State. Talked to his dad tonight, they have nothing but good things to say about Maryland. They’ll be rooting for the Terps. Told him we’ll be rooting for him in the ACC, too. Especially against Duke.
