Higher education is central to DC’s identity and future. Our universities drive innovation, research, public service, and civic engagement across our city. I’ll always support students’ right to speak freely, engage in debate, and challenge ideas without fear - and to do so in safe, welcoming learning environments. Strong universities and open dialogue make our communities - and our democracy - stronger.

I’m not going to make unrealistic promises. Listening comes first. In my first year as DC At-Large Councilmember, I’ll host at least one town hall in each ward. I’m committed to meeting residents where they are to hear directly, understand deeply, and represent every voice in DC.

Domestic violence is one of the most urgent public safety issues we face in DC - impacting 1 in 3 women in our city over their lifetime. That’s why I worked to establish a DNA database here in DC, bringing us in line with 33 other states and the federal government. DNA testing has helped close dozens of rape cases - including cases that had been open for over 20 years. This is about justice, accountability, and making our city safer. And it’s work I will continue fighting for every single day. Our survivors deserve continued investment which is why I am also working to restore funding for access to justice and victims services.

What should’ve been a great night out in Navy Yard turned into something we’re seeing far too often. Sitting at dinner at Takumi (one of the newest additions to the neighborhood) this was the view: chaos spilling into the streets, fights breaking out, and large groups of teens running through the area after yet another reckless event at the Bullpen. This isn’t a one-off—it’s a repeat pattern, and it’s happening later and later into the night. Residents and visitors should be able to enjoy a beautiful day, support new businesses, and have a peaceful meal without worrying about safety or disruption.
