The first time I did the lottery, I was in highschool. I had turned 18 a few weeks beforehand and every single one of the photos of me in a bikini that went viral on the internet in the aftermath were taken when I was 15 or 16 years old. Of course I have aged - I was a child. I find it so strange that women are asked to delay womanhood as long as possible in favor of some kind of eternal girlhood. I don’t want to be a girl, I don’t aspire to look like a teenager. I am very happy to be a woman. If your beauty standard for me is to look like a child that’s your problem but not mine. People are passing this off as medical misogyny but you really need to keep in mind that mass hysteria is very real for these situations. In the Tokyo subway sarin attack – and sarin is many times deadlier and easier to "catch" (it's a chemical, not a virus) than hantavirus… - 5,510 patients checked in to hospitals. - 984 presented with mild, recoverable symptoms matching sarin exposure. 500 of them were released that day. - 54 had severe injuries. - 14 people died. Almost 85% of patients were completely healthy people who rode the subway, saw on the news that their subway line was targeted with sarin, and checked in to the hospital with imagined symptoms. Mass hysteria in CBRN events is real and it's often more effective than the CBRN event itself. It can overwhelm hospitals, waste resources, delay treatment for more serious patients… Especially with something as hard to transmit as hantavirus, it is absolutely the RIGHT call to wait until test results return positive before telling a patient that they have probable hantavirus, and it is VERY likely in many cases that a patient does NOT have hantavirus. If you want proof, just look at all the hysteria surrounding "probable cases" in the news over the last week that end up with negative testing.
