The ex-wife of ICE officer David Brouillette, who fatally shot Colombian man Joan Sebastian Guerrero, 25, during an immigration operation in Maine, says he has a long history of abuse, threats and violent behavior. She alleges Brouillette asked her to "lie about my character" after the shooting and says she believes his mental health played a role in the deadly encounter. Brouillette's relatives have also described a history of violent behavior, raising questions about how he was vetted before joining ICE. Sen. Angus King of Maine said that "the person that was killed was not the person that they were seeking." "The ICE officer in question has nearly a decade of federal law enforcement experience with required training including use of force training," DHS said about Brouillette. According to DHS, Guerrero had “illegally entered the United States on Sept. 1, 2023, via the southern border and was released into the country under the Biden Administration.” But immigration rights groups says Guerrero had work authorization and a social security number.
