Axelar’s acquisition was the biggest shock in interop this year. well not that an acquisition happened. interop has matured as a category, and we’ll only see more of these. what was surprising were the terms, and what they meant for token holders. I find it increasingly hard these days to buy tokens knowing how fragile token holder rights are in moments like this.

@icryptan @AxelarFDN If the team that left would show everyone that they still have AXL tokens, it would show: 1) That they didn’t dump their tokens and take a giant shit on on their investors. 2) That they have faith in the new team’s ability to develop and move the project fwd.

Circle acquired Interop Labs - the team and IP behind Axelar But here's the key part: the $AXL token, the network, and the @AxelarFDN were not included in the deal. And this is a very telling story. It once again highlights a simple but uncomfortable truth of crypto: Tokens not equal ownership in a business. You don't have: - rights to the company - rights to revenue - rights to an exit - or even guarantees that the team will keep working to support the token price A team can sell the business, the IP, or move to a different structure - all without technically violating anything. Token holders are left as... token holders. With zero protection from the market's reaction. Even in TradFi, equity is brutal: in a bankruptcy, creditors come first, and only if you're lucky do investors see anything. Best case, it's an OTC buyout at a discount for large holders - not a 'refund', just damage control. Now port that logic into crypto, where the token isn't equity at all. At that point, the only thing left is reputation. And as practice shows - reputation doesn't always stop anyone.
