The County assess your property to determine it’s Actual Value. Your Local Governments, including County, Municipality, and Special Districts (School District, Recreation District, Water District, etc) determine your Mill Levy Rate. (Mill Levys are voter-approved thanks to TABOR) The equation is then as follows: The Actual Value of Your House X The Assessment Rate = Assessed Value Assessed Value X Mill Levy Rate = Taxes Due So, you can lower your Mill Levy Rate by organizing and engaging at the local level. That’s the most effective way to fight for lower property taxes!
