At the convening, partners—including @nafiquarshie of @NRGInstitute—reflected on Africa’s growing strategic position in global mineral value chains and the shift toward capturing more value from its resources.

The discussion highlighted value addition on the continent, stronger collective leverage in negotiations, and domestic resource mobilization as key levers for financing Africa’s transformation and development.

@NorvanReports The question, since paying back MoF in 2023, what has Explorco done with all the money it receives? Which well has it drilled? It has basically taken over cash call payments that were previously the responsibility of GNPC.

Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP)
At the opening of the Future of Energy Conference, the Executive Director of ACEP, Mr. Benjamin Boakye, set the tone with a powerful reminder: “May this conference be remembered not for the questions we ask, but for the answers we give. This call to action reflects the heart of the conference—moving beyond dialogue to real solutions. From tackling energy poverty to ensuring a just energy transition and unlocking financing for Africa’s energy future, the conversations were rooted in action and accountability. In this spirit, we are excited to present the key action points from the conference. These are not just outcomes—they are roadmaps for collaboration, innovation, and progress. We invite all stakeholders, partners, and change-makers to engage with these recommendations and work with us to drive the solutions Africa urgently needs. Together, we can turn commitments into impact. Successful financing, according to Suneeta Kaimal(President & CEO, @NRGInstitute) starts with a strategic and inclusive vision for a just energy future. There is no single path; Africa’s energy and economic transformations require context-specific solutions that are aligned with national ambitions and grounded in the voices and needs of its people. How do we move from ideas to investments and make clean energy projects truly bankable in Africa’s high-risk markets? I have a few books on the Volta River Project from the 1950s. It's just fascinating the level of integrated thinking that went into it - Nkrumah indeed saw beyond the dam, and miles ahead of the time on industrialisation. You can access a scanned copies here: bit.ly/3Ib4DWV and bit.ly/4nQ9RI3. The Foreword on the first book was written by Nobel Laureate Sir W. Arthur Lewis who was Nkrumah's economic advisor at the time. The second book is even more fascinating: It was written in English and Mfantse (to carry the people along/buy into the vision).

While the Akosombo Dam (the Volta Project) is widely recognized as a major achievement (that Ghana still hasn't eclipsed, more than 60 years later), Nkrumah's initial vision for it was far more comprehensive. He saw it not just as a power source but as an integrated project for broader agro-industrial development, including business opportunities, irrigation, and non-soil agriculture. This suggests a more holistic and ambitious understanding of development than is often attributed to his industrialization drive sometimes. A thread.
