Buster Posey told me the Giants will “mix and match” with their infield for now, including extra days off for the veterans. Posey: “Casey has been playing well. I don’t think he should be punished because others have not played well.” Schmitt is at 3B tonight.
@susanslusser@SFGiantsNick I struggle to see a spot for anyone unless a trade happens. Adames, Devers and Chapman will not get benched. Lee, Ramos, Schmitt and Arraez are the only guys hitting. Gilbert could be hes looked better and I dont see lee moving back to centerfield. This roster is stuck.
@SFGiantsNick We don’t know he’s coming up for sure. Also what they have specifically said is they don’t want to call up any top prospects if there is no spot for them everyday. I don’t see an everyday spot for Bryce as things stand.
Given Whisenhunt is making his scheduled start for Sac right now, McDonald is likely to go tomorrow for Giants unless somehow a bullpen game. Or as part of a bullpen game.
Regarding this play, third base coach Hector Borg said from his vantage point that it was difficult to see how far away the ball got from Bryson Stott.
Borg also mentioned how Matt Chapman and Luis Arraez were due up next.
On paper, Landen Roupp would be a pretty solid trade asset. Not saying that they should or would trade him anytime soon, but more of a recognition that a good pitcher with a lot of team control remaining has value in trade talks.
Tony Vitello said the staff talked before the game about using Walker right after Ray since they’re pretty much the exact opposite looks (left/right and very different arm angles). Didn’t want the Mets to feel comfortable after getting Ray out of the game.
"Some guys are either subconsciously or consciously trying to hit a five-run homer for the team to make up for things."
Tony Vitello on Willy Adames and the Giants' lack of hitting so far:
"For me the biggest thing with him is over swinging a little bit at times."
@PavlovicNBCS@Buster_ESPN Early season IL stint coming up, Eldridge will come up and do well offensively and defensively then encarncion/schmitt will get moved, devers to DH.
Vitello said Devers is still feeling the hamstring “a little bit.” He could play first base if needed, but there’s no reason to push it right now. They expect Arraez to see time there at some point, but it’s Schmitt for now (with Encarnacion an option as well).
"Our goal is to win the division."
Matt Chapman talks about having Rafael Devers for a full season and how the Giants will "welcome the challenge" of whoever is in their division.
@MyFryHole I mean is this intentional? From the lines to the healthy scratches none of this makes sense and a poor performance was expected. Anytime a line shows chemistry warso ends it to force in a struggling vet
