@patiencemosher @nikki_darks @ContraPoints That part. It was blatently using the courts as a tool of harassment. It was such a milquetoast article that did not mention him and he sued her, a person, as opposed to the ACLU who not only had more resources but would hit his reputation alot harder if he tried to sue them

@nikki_darks @ContraPoints No. She was granted a restraining order against him in 2016 and it was widely covered in the media. She then wrote an op-ed in which she claimed she had become "a public figure representing domestic abuse." That is just factually true.

@PronouncedWrong @ContraPoints It was confusing by design but it was confusing in Depps favor and you would get dogpiled by posting support or even neutrality on Heard. It feels like youre forgetting the vitriole against Heard during this. Public support for Heard was punished and risky online

@PronouncedWrong @ContraPoints If it did do that then there would have been more people defending Heard while it was happening. It was a successful pr campaign against Heard that may have influenced the jurors. The cautious people waited for the smoke to clear and found themselves complicit through silence

@RSchi_pa_pa @PorcoRadio @EvanDShapiro @carolinekwan @ContraPoints I did not suggest abandoning voting. You are not a serious person. You were the one claiming electoralism was the only avenue of power, i pointed out that it not only isnt not the only avenue, its not even the most effective right now. Youve done nothing but deflect from my point

@DJGamez911 @PorcoRadio @EvanDShapiro @carolinekwan @ContraPoints Voting is an avenue of power. You are suggesting we abandon voting. So yes, you are. And here YOU are, avoiding the question to try and reframe the convo to another topic. and accusing me of that in the same breath. It's just like talking to a republican lol

@RSchi_pa_pa @PorcoRadio @EvanDShapiro @carolinekwan @ContraPoints Its a correct observation of your replies, if you think thats insulting then you can work on that skill. I never suggested we abandon any avenue of power, that assumption is revealing, youre just trying to reframe the convo to a topic you are more interested in. Pure Electoralism

@DJGamez911 @PorcoRadio @EvanDShapiro @carolinekwan @ContraPoints That is not an answer. Again, the question is: "Why would you not use all avenues of power available?" Please answer this question. I didn't ask you whether voting is the most effective avenue of power, I asked you why you wouldn't use all avenues of power available.

@cattobingu @unluckyxen @greenteatattoos I think its important to remember that the protection didn't always come from affection, alot of them were celebrities mandated by the studio to arranged marrage and their spouse may or may not know they were queer. It was protecting an investment

@horror96615 @shadydoorags Thats why all media exists under capitalism, they need to keep their IP alive and neither you or i have much say in whether they let it lie. Id rather the filmakers have a different take than just trying the same angle, make a movie that is interesting despite the limitations

@DJGamez911 @shadydoorags If its as irrelevant as you say, then just let it rest. We don’t need a new Wonka film. We don’t need franchises kept on life support by greed. There’s no way this actually benefits the original film or the book. It’s a sequel that exists just so it can exist and make money.

The premise sounds like a deconstruction of the original story, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm tired of deconstructions. I'm not gonna say they shouldn't ever be done, but I've seen enough of them done badly lately that I just want to enjoy things as they are.

First still from "Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory" (Sony Pictures Imageworks / Netflix), directed by Jared Stern & Elaine Bogan. Set in modern day London after the chocolatier is released from prison for the crimes committed in the original story. netflix.com/tudum/articles…

@BloodyLibrarian @alexiszocco @FoldableHuman This is funnier given that the video itemized the trip and put it in perspective as not particularly expensive for a brand as big as Mr Beast. He essentially got a free busness trip and a tour

@horror96615 @shadydoorags The Wilder version is a classic but fundamentally disconnected to any relevance it had when it came out. If the story is to survive it needs to change and the only thing people talk about are its more iffy aspects because that rings truer than the benevolent rich man story

@horror96615 @shadydoorags Canonically paid a tribe of 'African pygmies" in coaco beans. They just made a movie with Timothy Chamalet where they played it straight, the result is a film that felt fake. Burton played it straight, it was better but still plastic and like its moral, it didn't have a point

@shadydoorags @firslordzuko Traditional roles are usually broken during crisis not reinforced, they are arbitrary, if you have hands you do the work. Sokka felt like he was protecting the tribe by training toddlers but the work he was doing was less useful than if he instead helped the women

I hate Pakku and the Northern Water Tribe being sexist because it makes no sense when you stop and think about it. Sokka being sexist makes sense. After multiple raids, the Southern Water tribe had to rely on traditional means to survive, meaning everyone, men and women, had to fall back on gender roles. This was the environment Sokka grew up in. The same can not be said for the Northern Water tribe. They have less reason to keep women away from combat when the most effective method of combat is given to women just as much as it is men. This is the result of writing sexism without understanding why sexism exists in the real world. Tribes used sexism to survive, but a lot of those methods aren't the most effective anymore in modern day. Also, water is the element of change through love, yet Pakku, the best waterbending master of the Northern tribe, is a stubborn person who refuses to change despite his fiancé having left him due to not liking tradition and has to be taught this lesson by Katara. Everything about Pakku's situation feels like someone wanted an anti-sexist, question tradition episode without thinking if it made sense to the AtLA world, which is a shame because there was already a good anti-sexist episode as well as a good episode that questioned tradition.

i always wondered what would’ve happened if aang had been a girl under this circumstance. in the past the avatar could’ve learned from a southern waterbending master, but they were all killed. would they have made an exception for the avatar or would she have been refused too?

the literal bare minimum but I'm really glad Aang spoke up and backed katara up against that sexist pig bro- katara could whoop all of them please don't play with her

They were girls who went to school to learn, with hopes and dreams for their future. Today, their lives were brutally cut short. I am heartbroken and appalled by the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, including reports that a girls’ school in southern Iran was hit, resulting in the injury and death of many girls. The killing of civilians, especially children, is unconscionable, and I condemn it unequivocally. My heart is with the children, families and communities affected by escalation across the region. I stand firmly against violence and the targeting of schools and civilians. I call for the escalation of violence across the region to end. Justice and accountability must follow. All states and parties must uphold their obligations under international law to protect civilians and safeguard schools. Every child deserves to live and learn in peace.

@ChampagnePuthy The writing was on the wall. Id appreciate a source, was thinking of writing a paper on the Krakoa Era and this could be relevant (specifically the claim about editorial being opposed to the themes)

The creatives openly admit that there isn’t much collaboration. The creatives admit that their editorial management thinks the previous era was too harsh against violent supremacists. None of that inspires confidence in the line having any integrity.

To be clear, the Storm solo is centrist. The entire x-office is centrist right now. Theres not a single book in the line right now that offers any political depth or takes a stance on violently detaining and incarcerating an oppressed people.

@SafeSpaceDrWho Any single one of these would have been a good enough concept to provide multiple episodes, but they are just dismissed very quickly so the doctor could sacrifice himself for a manufactured problem with an unsatisfying solution. Unearned, tragic, and cruel regeneration

@SafeSpaceDrWho Incredibly bad send-off to my second favorite doctor. What was the point of any of it? Just fumbling down a flight of stairs wasting every concept they brought up. Rani, gone. Omega, boring and gone. Wish baby God, neutralized and gone. Doctor descendants, gone.
