I just saw somebody post this on Instagram, and damn did it make me feel old. And nostalgic. Crescendo burned bright like a comet. Was one of the biggest deals ever when it first opened. We had DJ AM dj the grand opening - @steveaoki when he was “dj kid billionaire”, and @djkevinscott opened and closed. I got to play for like the first hour before anybody showed up. Jordan and his ex wife both came through there multiple times. Kobe Bryant, Suge Knight, R. Kelly, Derek Jeter, Dwayne Wade, A-Rod, David Ortiz, all were regulars when in town. We did one of @ozzieguillen13’s birthdays there, and I got to DJ Derrick Rose’s 21st birthday party there. In those days, it wouldn’t get busy til around 1 o’clock. (Crazy to think of today.) As quickly as we turned “going to Reserve early”, and then cabbing it to Crescendo for late night THE move, it felt like poof, it was gone. A ton of tv and movie stars, and other celebs used to be there all the time too, but I never cared about them. But I always geeked out over getting to DJ for the athletes I watched on tv religiously. That was always the coolest thing to me. Another group tried to reopen it under the same name, but it was never the same. Not even close. Nick DeMassi was in a league of his own. (With Arturo Gomez, Matt Warner, Mike Bisbee, and Matt Deichl not far behind.) This city has had so many incredible nightclubs, and Crescendo was one of them.
