Seen an interview with Timothée Chalamet today and felt pretty sorry for the guy. He came across like he is genuinely a big Dylan fan, who wanted to make a really important film about him. Unfortunately for him, he got stuck making A Complete Unknown, a film that didn’t give him enough to do because there really wasn’t much to it. This could have been a great American film about an American icon. But, the lack of scope and ambition in A Complete Unknown is one of the greatest mistakes in movie making. I read an interview with director James Mangold where he said he was influenced by Amadeus when making the film. Well, there’s another film that he would have been better watching for inspiration. And it’s not a music biopic.
