He wasn't wrong. Elite tastes + social media algorithms + the attention that comes with being perpetually offended + groupthink = another silly controversy. We live in such stupid times

In a discussion about the problem of the modern attention span and how to keep people coming to the movies, Mr. Chalamet made a simple factual statement: opera and ballet aren't popular art forms

So @MLB and @espn could not have made a more confusing, frustrating experience in signing up for MLB TV if they tried. Why is MLB always so bad at this stuff?

I can't stand the presentist arrogance of the filmmaker who looks down his nose at the thing he's remaking. Nine times out of ten his modern "improvements" are just embarrassing and bad. If you don't love the source material, give the stupid thing to someone else, b/c it shows

Usually what's happening in these situations is that a show gets caught up in our stupid culture wars and the cowardly critics don't want to be seen as taking "the wrong side," so they judge a thing, not by its merits, but by their political or ideological team

It's maybe too early to judge, but on the first episodes of the new Star Trek series, IMDB gets it right and Rotten Tomatoes gets it wrong. The show has distractingly bad acting, unbelievable scenarios, and LOL anachronisms like "social activism: I love it"

Whether you agreed with him or not, Charlie Kirk is dead purely because some people didn't like what he had to say. That should outrage every single one of us.

@TheHistoryOfTh2 Well that's using an axe instead of a scalpel, but yes that would probably do the trick. I could get behind it

@DLNoorlander How about cutting federal regulation of universities to (say) rules prevailing in 1990, and tell universities that they have 2 years to reduce the ratio of administrative staff to 1990 levels plus (say) 10% in order to retain federal funding. That might focus the mind.

Much of the land south of the Mohawk River and west of the Hudson only clearly became Mohawk when they crushed their neighbors in the 17C. In other words, it became theirs by conquest

Land acknowledgments are always problematic, but SUNY Oneonta's is especially so. Oneonta sits in a hazy area near the 16C/17C Mohawk, Mahican, and even Susquehannock territory ...

This is Tawanda Hall. She fell $900 behind on a property-tax payment plan. So the government seized her home—which sold for *$308,000.* Hall got nothing. The Supreme Court said stealing home equity is illegal. But some states are *still* trying to defy the law. A thread.

In 1981, there was a Marvel-DC crossover issue pitting the Incredible Hulk against Batman. Whose idea was this? Batman has no super powers. He would get totally smoked by the Hulk. Thank you for attending my TED talk.
