Finished Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier - this morning, read by the sublime #HollidayGrainger. She's perfect at evoking British 1930s UMC accents, think Venetia Hall but slightly less jolly hockeysticks. Though, and no shade to Holliday, I have no idea why she pronounces 'passage' as 'p-saj'. I feel like starting it all over again, it's one of the very best English novels, my love for it definitely influenced by its parallels with another perfect novel, Jane Eyre. Though I don't think I actually like any of the characters, apart from when the narrator - the second Mrs De Winter - describes her initial thought after her husband's 'shocking' revelation. Read it!!

We are born with the dead: See, they return, and bring us with them… A people without history Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern Of timeless moments. So, while the light fails On a winter’s afternoon, in a secluded chapel History is now and England. T.S. Eliot
