DMU would like to pass on our condolences to the family of poet Benjamin Zephaniah who died today aged 65. He inspired many of our students over numerous visits to DMU, telling them to "have poetry in your lives." We were also proud to award him with an honorary degree in 2015.

20 years ago today Section 28 was repealed. It banned local authorities from ‘promoting homosexuality’, meaning no positive portrayals of LGBTQ+ relationships in theatre, films and literature📅 Revoked in England in 2003, this was a vital step towards a more inclusive society🌈
